I looking to get into some catfish on the Delaware. Any areas to focus on? My friend lives down near Trenton and wants to get out for some. Is that mid section good for cats or do we need to head further north? Thanks!

Re: Euro Nymph Techniques
When put that way , it's not a lot different....but.but.but fish will eat eggs yr round....if we could throw March brown patterns yr round ? sign me up....sounds as if you took offense, which was not my intention.....all I'm saying is, is that it's a crutch and slowing your evolution as a fly fishe...

Re: Euro Nymph Techniques
Great info and illustration!!!, but you lost me at "eggs" Egg flies. I like a small sucker spawn/ blood dot pattern in a light color. Like I said, my method isnt truly "Euro" but I dont complain when I catch fish. While I understand their use in the great lakes tribs, away from that it's one step a...

Re: Euro Nymph Techniques
Ahhh "Euro" nymphing! As Rusty said, its a jumbled style now because any form of nymphing without a traditional indicator pretty much gets thrown into this category. You essentially have four styles, Czech, Polish, French and Spanish. Czech and Polish are what most people are referring too when they...

Re: Tippet rings - thoughts?
Love tippet rings! I use them on all my leaders, and yes, even for dries! Sorry Jay! I use at least two of them on my nymphing leader when going from 2/3x to 4x and 4x to 5x. For dries I use them at the end of the tapered leader to go to my final section of 5x tippet. They really do save your leader...

Gotta be uncomfortable...a barb hook coming outta yer ass...yowzee. I have had kidney stones, but this, I cant imagine.. Can I change my screen name to barbless only?😳😉 Uncomfortable for sure, but, survivable. Also you cannot change a screen name once its created..... but I can  However, I mig...

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness
One thing is clear, we all care about fish and their well being. For those on this forum, who mostly C&R and handle fish properly, the barbed vs barbless hooks won’t make a big difference given all the other factors of proper care when handling and releasing a trout. I hope everyone had a good long ...

Re: 22" Largemouth
I use 8lb for the extra security when the fish go into the wood or rocks. I mostly bass fish from a boat so distance isnt as much of a factor.
Also, nice fish!

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness
Hey Twism, and everyone else. New to the thread and I finished the publications linked. There are some problems with the data, the first is that the publications are 20 years old or older. I haven't had the time, yet, to look for more recent analysis. I also haven't had the time to look at other pub...

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness
I've seen way too many fishermen on the river (both fly and spin guys) struggle to get the hook out of the fish they just landed. I feel that the faster the hook can be removed the better, especially with everyone taking longer to release each fish because they need their grip and grin photo. Yes, ...

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness
Like anything in this world we can find evidence supporting both sides. Here is an article that has info on barbs doubling mortality rates in fish. https://theflyfishingbasics.com/barbed-vs-barbless-hooks/ That article is not scholarly and has no numbers or evident to support its claims. There is a...

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness
So it looks like most people here fish barbless because it’s your own personal preference, which is fine. Fish how you want to fish. I still don’t think we need a regulation for it when it does not prevent excess fish mortality. Getting a hook out of yourself easy is a good reason for you to fish ba...

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness
Hi, I always fish barbless because as the one person went to the emergency room I wound up at a doctors office with a treble hook in my thumb and it had a barb on the hook it was in so deep even the doctor had a hard time getting it out. Many times I have had a fly caught in the back of my neck bei...
