Monmouth county spot burners needed

Greetings fellow anglers, your old pal Bubba Zinetti here. For the last few years I have been trying to fish in a few streams in Monmouth county without much success. We (my wife and I) have tried these spots usually in late spring around June, and have had no success. Nothing. I have tried every fl...

Re: Fly fishing show??

I'm still scheduled to work the Native Fish Coalition booth in a couple of weeks. Time will tell if they still have the event or not. I did recently receive an email soliciting vendors which is exceptionally late in the game compared to all other years. They are normally booked by May for the next ...

Re: Fly fishing show??

We really wanted to go to the Show. It is a great chance to get out and see new stuff, and to fondle the things that we may buy. Not this year.

Re: chest waders vs. pants

Here is my two cents: They can be hot, but when you need them for crossing, or deep wading or when the weather is cool there is no replacement. If it is hot, we just wet wade. I see more flexibility from having chest waders than from having just pants.

Since we are posting what our favorites are I'll chime in and say I love Maxima tippets and leaders.

I have been using them for quite a while, and I prefer them over most of the other commercial leaders and tippets.

Re: Warmth Under Waders

I thought I would add my 0.02$: Jeans are quite comfy, until you get them wet, usually because you fell in. Then they suck. They will not retain warmth when wet, they will take forever to dry. It is the drying time that moved me away from jeans years ago. For warmth I wear long underwear underneath ...

I think that this, or something like it, has happened to all of us at one time or another. Sorry that a jerk disturbed your calm. Unfortunately there is not much that you can do in situations like this without escalating the problem. Thankfully the person left.

Re: Best wading boots

Anyone who wears waders and boots 5 or more times a week can only really expect a couple of seasons in a pair of boots. Equipment does wear out, after all. The problem with forums like this is that 10 guys will give you 10 different answers based on their own experiences. One or two may fish but a ...

Re: I'm officially a chest guy

As an official fat guy, I did not like the chest pack. I got a small one and found it annoying. I dislike vests, but I see their usefulness, they were never comfortable for me, and I tended to load them up with everything. Additionally vests don't have a good spot to keep a water bottle. I switched ...

Re: Van Campens restoration project.

I think we agree-people shouldnt crap up the environment-I am just saying that the issue doesnt need to be unnecessarily infused with ethnic/racial animus as different waves of people have grappled and continue to grapple with how to best enjoy public areas together in balance. Thus enforcement of ...

Re: Montana or Northern New Mexico?

Good point Rusty, My friends in WY (4th and 5th generation) look down quite hard on all those who have only lived there for 20 years or so. In my experience, we have lived in NJ for 20+ years and are still considered newcomers. A big work around this is to get involved in civic groups, volunteer for...

Re: Montana or Northern New Mexico?

Some other things to consider: Coal mines closing in Montana and Wyoming, oil and gas revenues are way down in both states. Those things are the primary source of income for those states. New Mexico also has a large input from fossil fuels and extractive industry. Then there is the Federal governmen...

Re: Am I slow, or is this normal

I have been busy and I didn't see the response that Matt sent. Thanks Matt. I have been slowly getting faster. I changed up from tying for an hour to tying at least 3 flies a session. On Sunday, I tied 7 flies (all Klinkhammers) in one session. It turns out that it is kind of fun and relaxing.

Re: Am I slow, or is this normal

Bubba, take a Sunday (free) class at Shannon's once that opens back up after Covid runs its course. Parachutes are slower to tie, but you should be able to crank one out in about five minutes, possibly more if struggling with the post or wrapping the hackle around the post which is where most strug...

Am I slow, or is this normal

Greetings fellow anglers. I am in the process of cleaning out and renewing my fly boxes. There are quite a bit of flies that I need to tie, and I have set aside an hour a day, 3 days a week and a few hours on the weekend. I have found that if I am careful, and I try to make a good fly I can tie abou...
