Re: Melt-down? Storing Waders for Summer Road Trip

Heading west where things are hotter. Wondering if you older-hands have any advice about traveling with your waders subjected to the high heat that may happen under a pick-up truck topper/cap? Really like the new waders and don't want to damage them! :?: Why not just wear them in the air-conditione...

Re: Wild brookies, snakes, and ticks

I think I got lucky with that bigger brookies as all the other ones were less than 6 inches. I also took my daughter to a different stream for some wild browns-it was the first place my dad ever took us trout fishing at a similar age. Unfortunately he passed away this week-fortunately my daughter h...

Re: 60 Degree Temps in July

I wet wade a lot for trout and especially smallies. I dont mind getting wet, but I do find it annoying to get sand/pebbles in my wading boots/old tennis shoes. Any tips on preventing that? Wet wading socks. They are just like your waders neoprene boot, but have a piece that folds down. Keeps all th...

Re: 60 Degree Temps in July

Anyone else take advantage of the weather today. Went to the upper BF. Would have been satisfied with one. Ended up with three rainbows and two brookies, all on top. That sounds awesome, Cappy. Speaking of summer dry-fly fishing on the Big Flat, I was out recently during one of these cool mornings ...

There is a big difference between RIO and Orvis...use them next to each other.

Re: Tippet

These kinds of threads to me are like which is better, Ford, Mopar or GM? :D I've always found RIO to tie knots easily and without failing, so I stick with that brand. To each his or her own. I like Maxima in saltwater for what it's worth. Not looking for a subtle turnover of a light fly, I'm trying...

Re: Tippet

RIO all the way for me and I can get any brand at cost. Used to be a Frog Hair guy long ago until I switched. Also like Trout Hunter, especially their middle sizes (4.5 for example), but not always easy to find and I don't see their rep much these days.

Re: Five days on the upper Delaware coming up

I'll prob spend a few evenings on the b kill as the days and evenings will be cool, keeping the water temps down ....however I almost always spend more time on the mainstem....good luck to you as well!!! Temps for both air and water continue to drop up there. The B-kill is the "worst", but has 63 d...

Re: Lopatcong Creek restoration to begin in June

While email, zoom, phone are ok to transmit basic information, sometimes it just takes in-person communication to get the message across. So true! I'm very old fashioned and want to meet folks face to face, look them in the eye, and get a read on them whenever I'm conducting business. But many peop...

Re: Brookies

There is no right or wrong answer. I tend to think of trout water versus non trout or seasonal trout so for me, the upper is above the Solitude Dam in the KLG and everything downstream is the lower river. But when I said "upper", I really was talking about from the Budd Lake outflow down to old rou...

Re: Lopatcong Creek restoration to begin in June

Finally reached the supervisor in DEP Land Use yesterday to make sure their final permit was being issued in time for us to begin. Cool guy and someone I had yet to meet in person. After talking about the Lopat and two other projects his team is reviewing, he said regarding to the Lopat: "Brian, you...

Re: Brookies

Healthy looking fish! They were gorging on Sulphur emergers, and any other bug that came into view, aggressive and unwary! This was on the SBR, where? I'm not telling. I've anecdotally been hearing from many anglers catching both native brookies and wild browns in the upper SBR and Musky. I'm think...

Re: Handling Trout for C&R

Modern rubber mesh nets make C&R so easy these days. That and a good pair of hemostats. As others said, there really is little need to ever handle the trout or other fish if your plan is to release it unharmed. As for when you do handle a fish, it takes but a mere second to get your hands wet before...

A buddy that lives in Jackson sent pix this morning of hordes of them in that part of NJ. Still not seeing any up here just yet.
