Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness

I've seen way too many fishermen on the river (both fly and spin guys) struggle to get the hook out of the fish they just landed. I feel that the faster the hook can be removed the better, especially with everyone taking longer to release each fish because they need their grip and grin photo.

Re: guess where Im @ on the Musky

I have dropped three phones in the drink in the past 8 months.... one more and my wife won’t let me go fishing anymore! I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ smartphone and I use it underwater all the time. Felt real strange purposely sticking it underwater the first few times but now it comes natural. I get...

Re: Little Black Stoneflies

I was hiking near a small WTS on Sunday and I noticed some trout rising. I went over to investigate and saw some crawling up on the rocks.

Re: WTS 1/30

I know that it seems like there are more and more herons around. You used to see an occasionally one while fishing the WTS now it seems like you see a few on every stream. These guys must also be contributing to the decline in trout.

Nothing like exploring and finding new water that holds trout.

Nice job!

Great job, those are some nice looking trout. I have never seen a trout eat a frog but I guess it happens.

nice trout-wild or clubfish?
Nice trout regardless. The first pic looks to be wild. Last pic looks for sure wild. Second pic and Rainbow stocked fish. I assume somewhere on the SBR.
Not sure if the browns are wild or not, but all I know is they were fun to catch!

Hard to tell, the second photo you will notice that the pelvic fins look a little worn down. Strange thing is that usually whenever I catch browns the aggressively strike even in the cold but this time the browns were much more subtle strikes.

Cold Morning, Icy Guides, Hungry Trout

I got out Sunday morning and went to one of my favorite rivers. Air temp was only 26 when I hit the water (forgot my thermometer so not sure what the water temp was) and the guides on my rod iced up for the first few hours. River flow was good but I was surprised to still see so many leaves in the w...

Backing

I am going to pick up a new fly line for Pike fishing. I am going with the RIO INTOUCH PIKE/MUSKY in a 9wt. I also need to pick up some backing and can't believe the cost of backing. What do you guys use for backing? Any recommendations? I was thinking of either 20lb or 30lb at around 250 to 300 yar...

Looks like a great day to me. Anytime you can get out on the river and catch some wild trout is a great day in my book.

Re: Wader recomendations

I picked up a pair of Frogg Toggs (Pilot II) waders from Sierra Trading post and really like them. I used them for about a year and have no complaints. They list for $229 on the Frogg Toggs website. Sierra Trading Post sells them for $119 and I was lucky enough to buy them when they had them on clea...

Anyone know how often the state assesses/surveys, and publishes findings on the health of wild trout streams? I believe the last one was in 2015?
I believe I read something that stated they do it every 5 years.

I hit a different section of the Musky on Saturday morning. Got there just as the sun was rising, checked the water temp and it was 68. I fished until about 9:00am and check ed the water temp when I was leaving and it was up 1 degree to 69. I think it is time to leave the trout alone until cooler te...

Re: Algae bloom

Does anyone has info on why this bloom is harmful to people and they say stay out of the water? The NJ DEP posted this... Exposure can cause a range of health effects, including rashes, allergy-like reactions, flu-like symptoms, gastroenteritis, respiratory irritation, skin rashes and eye irritation.

Re: Algae bloom

I had asked the NJ DEP that exact question and here is a response I got from them. At this time there is no impact on the Musconetcong River, and it is likely there won’t be as the algae doesn’t thrive in cold running water. Also, it would show up in Lake Musconetcong first. You might want to follow...
