In addition to temps the SB now has assessment of chlorophyll and phycocyanin florescence and relative florescence. Does anybody know their usage? Chlorophyll I assume could be used to assess algae in the water however the phycocyanin I am unfamiliar with.
i am not familiar with.

Re: WMA closings
The State sent out an e-mail today that WMA's will start reopening today although they cautioned that it may take several days as there needs to be inspections and removal of barriers. We can now go trout fishing again in WMA's except the temps. are in the 90's and the trout streams unfishable.

Re: WMA closings
I agree. I stop before the end of June. I was expressing my exasperation at seeing cars and fishermen this time of year in the musky. Saw several today at the pt. Mnt. TCA. Since the TCA's are C&R with exception of some allowing one over 15" I wonder if there is a way to close them when temps indic...

Re: Water Temps
A few years ago I remember there was at least one temperature monitor for a NJ river but the one I'm thinking about was discontinued due to lack of funding.

Re: West Canada Creek
It flows into the Mohawk River at Herkimer NY in Herkimer County quite close to Utica. There are about 20 miles of trout river below the Hinkley Reservoir and Trenton Falls. The TCA is from the falls downstream for about 4 miles. It is heavily stocked with brown trout all the way down to Newport. Ab...

West Canada Creek
I just came back from visiting my old home town in the Mohawk Valley upstate NY. I fished West Canada twice and had dry fly action both times. Water levels were low with fish in the deeper pools. These fish (browns) became active in the evening even though no significant hatch was going on. There ar...

Good for you. I have also given flies to people who need help but I've never seen them catch a fish on one which may be a comment on my fly tying skills.

Re: All state and county parks closed!
I just checked out the Manasquan out of curiosity and the parking areas are closed. There are cars and bikes along the road but the numbers are definitely down from previous years.

Re: Dry fly floatant
Both powder and gel work. I prefer gel but my buddy prefers powder. All good. When I apply gel I do so to the top of the fly only. I feel it gives me a better presentation. By the way this has been a great year for dry fly fishing with little black stones. I have netted several fish using a lbs dry ...

Re: Access question
One of the main reasons that land becomes posted is that land owners become tired of all the trash. If you are fishing on private land which is not posted, don't leave garbage. You might want to pick up trash you find as well after covid 19 goes away.

Re: Access question
If property is posted you can't go on it even if you are wading in the water. If only one side is posted you can go along the non posted side as long as you don't cross over the middle. I know "how do you know where the middle is?" About your question on the 2 bridges, it sounds like the property in...

Re: Peapack Brook 3/9/2020
Serious question, if there are no holdover browns, how did a wild brown appear in a river. It must have parents somewhere. Browns do reproduce in our streams and previously stocked Browns from years past are the origin of the current "wild Browns". What Rusty meant was that currently caught Browns ...

Re: NJTU State Council March Flytying Madness Mar 7 @ Cranford community center
I attended and the room was full with just a few unoccupied seats. This is one of the best NJ fly fishing events of the year and RRTU did another outstanding job in hosting it. Thank you to all the sponsors for donating prizes as well. A great day for some really worthwhile causes. If you have not p...

They're here. Fished lbs nymph today for the first time this year. Trout were taking them with aggressive hits.

In 2018 my first catch on a lbs nymph was 1/22 and 2019 it was 1/27 so they should be starting any time if they have not already.

The adult scitters along the surface as they lay their eggs. I suspect this is when the adults are fed on. I have seen them do this on the South Branch.

Re: Little Black Stoneflies
I should have mentioned that you fish the lbs as a nymph as they crawl out on the bank instead of emerging through the water column. I do carry a few dries same size 18 and they work to rising trout fairly well. Most rises this time of year will be for midges.
