Re: Coorelation of temps and bite in winter

Good insight, Rusty. I went fishing out on Sunday when it was 37 degrees, cloudy, and very windy. I did not get a single bite the entire day. I definitely agree with you coaltrout; I see much more success with temps around >40 and sunshine Same, but my friend and I got two hits / 1 landed fish in th...

Coorelation of temps and bite in winter

Recent trips showed success with temps around >40 and sunshine, and failures where it would be warm the previous day then a drop in temperature, along with full clouds.
I noticed this too last year.

What are all of your observations on these conditions around winter time?

Re: Who Uses a Net?

I bring one whenever I can. Keep mine in my car. Ive been using the same orange kayak net ive found on the banks of the raritan for more than a year now. It's big, floats, use it sometimes to deflect thorns from my waders while walking through the bush. My friends often commend me for my spectacular...

Re: Some wild browns

I find covering the body and neoprene waders (no leaks, use trash bags if u cant find that pinhole) to be good. Gloves and a balaclava; the more skin you have exposed the colder youre gonna get, especially with strong wind. What are the trash bags for? Few uses. The bags go over my legs like an out...

Re: Some wild browns

Colder months are when i tend to trout fish the most. Occasionally in spring ill go after stockies and a few attempts in earlier fall. I especially find the wild trout creeks to be best fished when foliage and bug life is dead, makes navigating the creeks ez. (Spider webs , plants to walk through, e...

Re: nj brookies... ever again?

If you went to ANY of the meetings offered by the State you would know that 60% of trout fishermen practice e C&R while only 40% actually catch and keep. I think those numbers came out in all the surveys. there must be some bias with those surveys. Maybe the anglers volunteering to do a survey are ...

Re: nj brookies... ever again?

Takes a long time to get Federal $$$ Not sure how solar panels stop bird poop, but whatever. Those are some CHOICE 15 inch Land Locked Salmon reared and stocked by the Division though ! Not sure what federal money you are referring to? The solar panels have nothing to do with federal funding. Also,...

Re: nj brookies... ever again?

Pequest remains in a holding pattern until it can get the solar panels over the tops of the raceways, and until that happens, the Division will not attempt to raise browns or brookies. Absolutely nothing has changed in that regard. It's just that the lack of support from Trenton in getting this don...

Re: nj brookies... ever again?

I kinda like the idea we only stock rainbows , I'd love it if the clubs would only stock rainbows . Then flat out we would only have browns and brookies come from natural reproduction. I think the section of the south branch from bud lake down to long valley that's no longer being stocked except fo...

Re: nj brookies... ever again?

I believe we should never stock a brook trout where wild populations of brook trout exist. However, I would like to see brook trout stocked in a stream like the Toms River where they appear to thrive year round but there is no known spawning. This idea Im fond of, bring back stocking of brookies (a...

AFTER I do the Burnt Mills dam removal project, of course :D :D Are you talking about the old dam that has been just sitting around and letting water run around it and eating the bank? I havent been to that part of the lamington since spring. How is the progress on it? Or Should I just take a look ...
