I have a nice bamboo rod, built by J. D. Wagner, that I pair with a Hardy St. George, is that snooty enough, can I come?
My go to rod is a 7'9" Wagner Patriot. I quit graphite pretty much when I got it.

Re: Late spring - summer fly fishing

The Musky was 64 degrees along Rt. 57 this morning, FYI (at the banks, i didn’t step in). Saw a couple guys fishing the bridges off Rt. 57 and a few more at the one lane bridge of the Point Mountain TCA. Still a lot of good looking water in my fairly uneducated opinion. It could get too warm over t...

Re: Wild NJ Browns

One of my goals for 2018 was to catch a NJ wild brown trout. I can cross that off my list as I managed to land 3 nice little wild browns today. All were between 6" to 7" but jumped like they were twice that size. Now I need to go after the brookies!!! https://i.imgur.com/YeWNRHmm.jpg https://i.imgu...

Re: brodhead

thanks for the details. barring seeing what's in the film i guess it's trial and error? does the time of the year and stream you're fishing help narrow the options? It all else fails I'd try a soft hackle wet fly. My 1st shot would be to fish it in the surface film using an upstream presentation, l...

Re: brodhead

I fished the bushkill yesterday morning. Some sporadic caddis hatching but nothing much going on early there either. I did get 3 on a march brown wet fly. I surmise that the cold front that came in overnight on Saturday shut things off some.

Re: Big Flat Brook

I have fished the fly only ( Now No Kill) area of the Flat Brook for many years and this was a first. Caught a Golden trout about 11 inches in the catch and release area.I know of clubs closer to the Delaware but unaware of any above 206. Highly unlikely it made up from the lower river. Why so? Wit...

Re: New Stretch of River (at least for me)

Should be OK for this month, especially with the cool temps and rain we have been getting this Spring. Wish more people practiced C&R there, lots of limits taken out. Never fished above the lake, not stocked and not a WTS, to many impoundments. If they can't survive summer temps, then that is the p...

Re: Stocking Truck

No doubt! I fished Round Valley a few years ago from my kayak and caught some the size of dinner plates. They pulled me around, left a small wake if I remember  Should have taken them home for the dinner plate! They are some of the best tasting fish. That they are!! I actually had some that we...

Re: Late spring - summer fly fishing

I use 70 degrees as the toggle point for trout fishing. Above 70 then it's off to hunt "bronze trout" on the Delaware. I use pretty similar streamer tactics so it translates well when you switch back in the fall.

We do monthly disaster recovery tests on the generator and transfer switch at our office, hard to believe that the hatcheries wouldn't do the same.

Re: Recommend some flies

The list above will be perfect plus I'd add partridge and orange soft hackles sizes 14-18 and hares ears wet flies again sizes 14-18. Both work well on the aforementioned Rockaway. Try Tightlines flyshop in Parsippany, its right on Rt 46 westbound, going east you'll pass it then make the U turn at N...

I use my parents vest. I feel naked without it. Plus I have my wading staff attached to it. I my chest pack has a D ring for my net if I opt for that though.

Re: What color buggers do you like

2days, 2 different rivers (Rockaway and Pequannock). They were all over brown buggers. I hooked about 20. Got 10 to hand, lost 3 flies to fish and had numerous swipes and turns too.

Real fishermen, don't use streamers...ever!!!! or mopflies, or egg patterns.. :D Buggers aren't streamers, they're buggers  you can fish them to imitate large stonefly nymphs, leeches, crayfish. Streamers have feather wings! Pattern references Woolly Wisdom (1999), Soucie[1] The Woolly...

Re: What color buggers do you like

I fish them a lot, often that's what I'll start with if there are no bugs actively working or I have limited time and want to target predatory fish. I prefer darker olive or black. For me brown can be real good on some streams but suck on others same with purple. White I have but almost never use ex...

Re: SBRR wild browns marking coloration

So, I agree with you, I am saying every wild brown, I have ever caught out of the SBRR has these tell tale marks..I have also caught wild browns at smaller creeks that do and do not have the halo, but that white stripe on the fins in your picture are another sign of wild, I just have a hard time wi...

Re: SBRR wild browns marking coloration

So, here is a wild trout from the SBRR... notice the red halo around the adipose fin, and the red line along the bottom of the tail fin. The spots are pretty "normal" for a brownie. The fish posted in the picture looks like a stockie from the Hackettstown hatchery...they are very distinct in appear...
