Re: Am I slow, or is this normal
Bubba, take a Sunday (free) class at Shannon's once that opens back up after Covid runs its course. Parachutes are slower to tie, but you should be able to crank one out in about five minutes, possibly more if struggling with the post or wrapping the hackle around the post which is where most strugg...

Re: Get a job
Seasonal jobs with the Division often lead to full time jobs if they like you. Something to think about if that is a career direction anyone here is looking to take.

Re: Winter Stockings
So, I've seen the videos and have heard of the Christmas stockings of the Point Mtn. TCA and Califon stretch of the SBR. But I ran into a fisherman the other day who said the State had recently stocked some fish in Ken Lockwood Gorge. Maybe this was a misunderstanding on his part--or on mine. Anyon...

Re: *THIS* is why you need a big-a** sealed drag
I get them big like that sometimes on my porch light. I'll take a picture next time I see a big one. Please, gentlemen. Can we not drift from the purpose of this post which was to justify the use of a sealed drag on 5-inch trout? Well ya'll need a fast, overlined 8 wt. to cast them giant midges als...

Re: Morris County Park Commission is proposing to dispose of 6.5+/- of undeveloped parkland
I'm always initially leery at land swaps when it comes to lands already in preservation. That said, a buddy is a high-up with Morris County Parks and I just reached out to him for more info although he's moving into a new home right now.

Re: Suggestion for a new reel?
I love marketing. And for the record, I have fallen for it myself. We actually believe we need $350-$550 reels to fight trout. I was at Shannon's last evening with owners George and Jimmy. We were looking over the new reels that just arrived for 2021 including some beautiful new Hardy reels. W...

Re: Online fly store
Hi, Depending on where you live. I would go to Shannon’s in Califon,NJ. They have a web site so you can get directions to there place. Heck they would even tell where to fish and what to use. They are very helpful and close to the gorge. Fish from Hoffman’s Crossing up stream. Bill the mailman Shan...

Re: "Free-riders"
i hardly see people to begin with  I think more people are keeping them off-display tho, none of my friends display it. It's no doubt there's a good % of anglers who just dont buy licenses. It seems easy to pull off; just dont fish anywhere popular. I think of the state actually cared and ...

Re: "State Open Waters"
In NJ, the landowner owns the bed of the stream and the banks, but the state owns the actual water and fish in it. So you can paddle through without touching bottom unless you find a tree across the river or a dam, and then you can exit your vessel for "reasonable portage" around said obstacle. But ...

Re: Winter Trout, Anyone?
Mid-teens here this morning and I'm looking forward to it warming a bit before heading out. The 'bows have been biting lately. Anyone else going to be wading through the snow to fish this weekend? I saw that the SBR water temp. flat-lined at 32 degrees the other day. Does it ever get too cold and a...

Re: KLG question
The KLG is still getting stocked. It is all rainbows and some are big and feisty. Not as many fish as there used to be. I would fish midges and scuds. Eggs will work and woolly buggers always work. The fish are educated and wiley as they get pounded often. I'm not sure it was stocked this year due ...

Eastern Concrete (Glen Gardner quarry) is seeking a change of use to their permit to begin to accept, process and store aggregate material. There is a Zoom hearing scheduled for this coming Tuesday, December 8th, on the application. Notice of the meeting can be found if you search at https://www.nj...

Re: Spruce Run
It looks like the retaining wall is finished, and from what I can see from the road, it has a funny curve to it and the pool is now shallow and filled with sediment. Someone who knows more about this stuff should drive down and take another look. They may have ruined one of the best fishing holes o...

Re: New york, trout fishing after Oct 15th
I see NY closes trout fishing (even CnR) after October 15th, for at least most of the streams im looking into. (I see exceptions for border waters and great lakes tribs) I wonder why they did this, in comparison to PA and NJ which just has closures for stocked trout. I reckon the October-November p...

I got the call the day news broke and felt like I took a stomach punch. I was working with him on his new book and we were making plans to meet on the river one day soon. Tom was a giant here in NJ in the conservation world and is the father of the Highlands Drinking Water Protection and Planning Ac...

I bend them back for trout. Just be certain to sharpen the hook point as that often gets bent when pulling off a snag in the stream (or in the trees for you erant casters ).

Re: How has the KLG been recently?
While I am not sure about the KLG, many anglers have been shocked to learn that due to Covid, uber popular spots like Point Mountain TCA were not stocked this year. But only because it is typically stocked with TU volunteers working with Hunterdon Parks employees to haul them through the woods in a ...
