Re: It's warm.
Same pool as where I caught this one last month when I visited home. There have always been loads of wild browns in there since I was a kid.

Re: Five days on the upper Delaware coming up
Yeah-how long/how many pounds do you reckon that last one was? What size tippet did he come in on? I imagine a fish like that in big water will work the drag some.

Re: Five days on the upper Delaware coming up
Sounds like some pretty dicey weather conditions! Those bugs are big-no wonder the trout grow to good sizes up there!

Re: Brookies
There is no right or wrong answer. I tend to think of trout water versus non trout or seasonal trout so for me, the upper is above the Solitude Dam in the KLG and everything downstream is the lower river. But when I said "upper", I really was talking about from the Budd Lake outflow down to old rou...

While email, zoom, phone are ok to transmit basic information, sometimes it just takes in-person communication to get the message across.

Re: Brookies
for me it was always above the slow moving water in downtown Califon as there is more natural spawning above there in tribs and even in main river. Below there, i assume spawning is mostly in tribs.

Check the gauge now. Temps in low 50s and river at 600 cfs with more rain on the way. When it rains, it pours as the old adage goes.

Re: The Bronze-back's are here!
About 15 years ago I was surprised to see large numbers of smallies in streams and rivers up in Maine. I do love smallies, but they dont belong way up in Maine. In fact global warming may have reduced their numbers down here on the Potomac as water temps get in high 80s and even 90s sometimes on the...

Re: It's warm.
Looks like the river got a little bump but is still warm and low. This weekend looks great though with some signficant rain over 3 days and highs in the 50s and 60s. Probably one of the chilliest memorial day weekends that I can remember.

Re: Cicadas--the 'filet mignon' for fish?
With the hot weather this past weekend, they are all over the place in DC now. There are even articles about humans cooking them-apparently you just rip of the legs/wings and fry them up and they taste like pop corn or fried shrimp...

Looks like a fun trip! Did you get any smallies on this trout trip? Any catch and cook on the trout riverside?

Re: The Bronze-back's are here!
That's a nice football shaped smallie and probably a drag screaming fight on a 3-5Wt. Excuse the ignorance, but what's an RSB? I wouldnt expect a smallie like that to take a small trout nymph or dry fly, but likely some kind of streamer/woolly bugger.

Re: Northern Snakeheads
Man, I hope they haven't found their way to Northwest Jersey, aka trout country. I know they have become quite common in DC/Maryland as well in and around Philadelphia and south Jersey. I don't know what their tolerance for cold water is. I am told they taste very good-in most jurisdictions you are...

Re: It's warm.
There are some cooler nights predicted over the next 10 days, but no rain that I can see. While everything is still green and corn is coming up, soil seems really dry for mid May. Hopefully the some moisture comes around as it could be a long summer without it.

Re: Wet Wading Season Opener
Of course, nothing is better than summer smallie wet wading which is right around the corner at this rate. It went from being quite chilly to dry and hot very quickly. The trout streams do need some rain as it is quite dry. Conversely, these low flows are ideal for smallmouth spawning and fishing-it...

Re: Wet Wading Season Opener
I prefer to wet wade from May onward. The one exception is if I am going to be wading waste deep or more for extended periods in a tail water. Last fathers day I fished a tail water with temps in the low 50s-it was bizzare as the air temp got into the high 80s/low 90s and my face was sweating but my...

Re: Quick trip
I took an even quicker trip to the edge of the yard for a few casts on the home creek. Forgot to grab my polarized sunglasses and just had on a hares ear with no indicator casting up stream to the biggest hole in the stream-it is slow moving water so without the glasses and indicator, felt like I wa...
