Re: Dry fly floatant

Guides out west use homemade concoctions... Mostly Lighter fluid and Abalene... I was skeptical but tried it and it works great. Fish don't care in the least about the smell. Dry it off with a few false casts and you are good. Better that anything else I have tried and I've tried them all. Except fo...

Re: Provo River UT

I have fished it a few times at this time of year. Excellent option if you don't want to ski. Managed well with lots of access. I heard the state did the smart thing. Bought up access sites and then built the reservoirs and made them bottom controllable release to create a tailwater. Good winter mid...

Re: nj brookies... ever again?

The thing I miss the most was the fact it seems the browns are more likely to rise to dries and were stocked later when there seems to be better hatches. Maybe a slightly higher tolerance to warmer water as science says and thus maybe higher holdover potential in many rivers without any natural prod...

Re: nj brookies... ever again?

I often wonder why NJ is so much different from surrounding Eastern states? Do they think they have it figured out? Look at PA... tons of streams with naturally reproducing browns and stocked browns and brookies in the tribs and so forth. They get stocked brook trout too... And honestly a stream lik...

Re: Fly Tieing Expo in Parsippany

I do enjoy this show. In some respects more that even the Edison Show. If you are a tyer or thinking of one I would highly recommend it. A bit more laid back than Edison and easier to talk to the tyers.

I have fished it less and less over the years. It get super warm with top flow from Greenwood Lake. Never really seems to hold fish much into the season. Looks better than it is unfortunately.

Re: Pike on a Fly

I too am looking for pike on a fly in NJ and have been doing some research. I did get two last yr that were not that big and they were both caught with 25 Mason Hard Mono. I also got LMB on the pike flies with Mono and I am not sure this would have happened with wire. This is the stuff that Barry Re...
