Re: Fly fishing etiquette rant

I would think or ,at least hope, that the guides would lose their licenses for allowing that kind of behavior.

Re: Toms River

Rob, sorry to hear you are still working but at least there is light at the end of the tunnel. I'll try to let you know when the next Toms stocking occurs. I usually get the info from the F and W website.

Re: Toms River

I am told that there is action on the top in the evening. I have fished the Toms over 100 times over the years but never in the evening. I have caught fish on top but very few. Because of the size of the river and the surrounding trees and brush, fishing on top is difficult but not impossible. Fall ...

Re: Toms River

The easiest way to get to the TCA is to park at the low end on Rt 571 and walk upstream on the right side of the stream. The Toms, in my opinion, is not the same since the State stopped stocking brookies. The rainbows seem to disappear for the most part and don't hold over as well as the brookies pe...

Re: WTS surprise tenant

The Toms and Manasquan rivers are loaded with eels. I've participated in several electro fishing projects on both rivers and we always turned up dozens of eels, all small (few inches) as I remember. Always wondered if trout eat them.

Re: Big Striper

MikeB. I'm not taking sides but the other side of the argument is that it's an old fish past breeding time and also it's a fish of a lifetime so why not keep it.

I use them a lot, almost exclusively olive. Black sometimes, I find white to be close to useless.

Re: SBRR wild browns marking coloration

I'm wrong the State hatchery is in Oxford, 9 miles west of Hacketstown. The Hacktstown hatchery stopped producing trout in 1981, but the Musky hatchery is still private.

Re: Help Identify This

On several occasions in the Catskills around Memorial Day I've seen masses of bugs flying upstream which I assume are caddis. Never see them on the water and wonder what they are and where they are going.

Bill it seems we are on a similar track, same age and similar number of years fly fishing and probably only a few left who can remember fishing the Beaverkill and rarely ever see any one else fishing. Glad to see you are still going strong.

Re: Introductions!

Johnw I've been an early participant on NJTrout, NEFF, and GST. Began fly fishing in the early 1950's. Learned from a friends father who worked at the Newark Evening News and a close friend of the outdoor writer for the paper, Ken Lockwood of gorge fame. Have fished all over NJ and usually make a tr...
