Re: Ken Lockwood

TU has been pushing the Division to close the road year round for many, many years now. This is a great thing, not a good thing. NJ anglers are WAY TOO LAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get off your fat A$$ES and do some walking. Suck it up, buttercup. And don't give me "I'm old and handicapped and need to ...

Re: Ken Lockwood

From F&W. "The middle parking area of the Ken Lockwood Gorge WMA, accessed from the north, is closed permanently due to irreparable road conditions. The dirt road along the river will remain open to foot and bicycle traffic. Walkers and bicyclers should use caution when traversing this stretch of r...

Re: It was WORK & was worth it

Funny thing, most of the snobby ones can't catch a fish and don't know what a bug is, but they have Orvis and SIMMS all up and down...that's why they are snobby...they don't want to be exposed... Tell me about it. They also love to "fish" with their fancy-pants cotton gloves, corduroy vests, wicker...

Re: It was WORK & was worth it

When I fished the local BASS circuit we always shared what was working, even when money was on the line. More fun to see people catch fish and enjoy. Welcome to trout fly fishing snobs 101 my friend :o . Most fly fisherman are that breed. You should see the look on some of the guys face sometimes w...

Re: It was WORK & was worth it

About the "grump" ... He may have mistaken you for a spot jumper. Courtesy among trout fly fishers normally calls for giving each other plenty of room. See: http://www.uky.edu/~agrdanny/flyfish/rules.htm On a crowded stream this can be relaxed, sometimes to the point of agreeing to share a large po...

Re: It was WORK & was worth it

You weren't fishing the bend right below the Califon dam were you? I met some guy there yesterday and I though I was very cordial...offered him a fly and my spot as he never caught a fish on a dry before, and I was catching quite a few...boy I hope it wasn't me because if people call that grumpy the...

Re: Hendrickson's?

The hendrickson hatch was on Sunday on the Broadhead. . If it's happening there it should definitely be happening in Jersey . I found a few Hendrickson's hatching today in Califon. Not a heavy hatch, but enough for a pod of fish to rise to. I caught some on a PT soft hackle dusted up and fished dry...

The hendrickson hatch was on Sunday on the Broadhead. . If it's happening there it should definitely be happening in Jersey . I'll be out tomorrow around Califon if the rain isn't too bad...I'll post what I see. My buddy is kind of a bug moron. They could be all over him and he might say...WTF are ...

Re: Washing Out Wader Stink

A garbage can is where they belong. Thay stank, which I smelled on someone else one day is deadly...it will spook fish and all the wildlife around if it doesn't kill them. One positive, you get lots of alone time.

Re: First time fly fishing

Male sure you check the regulations and fish open water. TCA's are good, like the KLG. I believe every fly you have will catch fish right now. Stoneflies have become active amd midges are always around. The water has been warming so the fish should be active...but you never know. Have fun and don't ...

Re: Van Campens restoration project.

Lots of interesting information and thoughts on this thread! It's a beautiful stream with wonderful trout from all three species. While we all know and appreciate that, other people who are not into fishing see it as the perfect place for a bbq party with friends and family. While I obviously dont ...

Re: Need a Crash Course on Spring Flies

Great info from everyone, thanks! Another rookie question... is there any sort of consensus on what rod line/size to use on these NJ streams? I know you can probably use just about anything, but curious what others use. I have a 7’6” 3-wt glass rod, a “softer” 9’-0” 5-wt, and a “faster” 9’-0” 6-wt....

Re: Need a Crash Course on Spring Flies

Try an iris caddis size 16. It is very versatile. It can be fished deep and wet, swung as an emerger or dead drifted dry. All work and catch fish and there is no need to be technical. It simly attracts fish, even when caddis aren't hatching. All the other suggestions are great as well. I woild add a...

Re: Van Campens restoration project.

Just to circle back on this, the Fred Burroughs TU chapter covers that area. Had you wanted to work with TU on a stream cleanup, it should have been with that chapter. Chapters don't like stepping on other chapter's toes when it comes to things like that. We reach out for approval before we cross t...

Re: Van Campens restoration project.

It's not a State Park, its federal lands (DWGNRA). And yes, the Superintendent of the DWGNRA has twice screwed over the Fred S Burroughs North Jersey TU chapter. Sorry you were put off by their response, but imagine if you were an active member that gave money and time to attempt to do a stream res...

Re: Van Campens restoration project.

There are few roads that allow entry to the NJ side of the DWGNRA. How about putting a gate and ranger booth on each of them and charge an entry fee from Memorial Day to Labor Day? Seriously, is that so far-fetched? I've heard that the DWGNRA is chronically under-funded. Entree fees! The National P...
