Re: Report: Clairmont Stretch 25 May, 2019
I'm getting confused as well. Is there another Gronsky's aside from the one in High Bridge? Yes, different Gronsky's. I believe the family lives near the Claremont stretch. Not sure if same family as the ice cream place/diner or not. But different location and at the end of the old TCA which is no ...

One brown at Gronskys, and two brookies on the way up.

Report: Clairmont Stretch 25 May, 2019
I fished from the rope swing up to Gronskys on Saturday evening. On the water at 17:40, off at 19:50. There was a number of flies in the air and on the water, caddis and a dark yellow may fly (probably a sulphur). I tricked 8 fish and took 3 to hand. The fish were feeding on the surface. I took one ...

Re: Strangest Bow i Ever Caught
First off, thanx to Rusty for the information. As a molecular biologist my interest was peaked. I went to the googles and after reading some papers I found a page with some pretty good information. Go here for a nice explanation:

Re: Bamboo Fly Rod over Fireplace Mantle?
OK, you asked for opinions, so here is mine: NO, fish it, or sell it to someone who will. If it is in bad shape, and not a viable rod then give it (or sell it for a smaller amount) to someone who will fish it. Then buy a cheap piece of crap that you would never fish, or is un usable and hang that ov...

Re: Edison Fly Fishing Show this weekend
We (my wife and I) went to the show again this year. We bought some new line and had it installed on our reels. We thought that the show was really good, and we were impressed by the number of female anglers and company representatives that were there this year. We were also impressed that there was...

Re: Old Claremont TCA facelift
This is one my favorite spots in NJ, I was disheartened last summer when I last fished the stretch with how much it had slowed down, and how shallow some areas had gotten. I am glad to hear that it is in better shape.

Re: Fly fishing etiquette rant
As a follow up and perhaps a change of the discussion, this is why my wife and I have taken to fishing smaller waters, and taking longer hikes to the water. We also like to fish less popular water. We fished Granite creek one year (outside of Jackson) and caught our fill of large cutts. We saw one o...

Re: Fly fishing etiquette rant
Why can't people be more considerate? JERZY Unfortunately this is not limited to NJ. We spent 2 weeks in Colorado in September and we witnessed all manner of really bad behavior. Cool story time. I had a good laugh when we were finishing out our day on the Big Thompson in Moraine Park (RMNP).. Somr...

Re: Idiot Governor Ignores Science, Bans Bear Hunting on State Land
Rusty, he's not wrong. Politicians ignore science when it suits their agenda. Hell, pretty much everyone ignores science when it is counter to what they believe. Ya, I know climate change, blah, blah. However, that is not the only area where people ignore the current science. Flat earthers are a goo...

Re: Idiot Governor Ignores Science, Bans Bear Hunting on State Land
Rusty, I know that some people do talk about conservation across the political spectrum. I have been part of that. I also know that there are plenty of assholes who won't give an honest listen. I asked a politician the same questions about the 50 caliber ban, and got hand waving. I explained the sam...

Re: Idiot Governor Ignores Science, Bans Bear Hunting on State Land
Not a hunter. Libbiest lib that ever libbed. I agree with Twism and Rusty. Ignoring the scientists, and having no management plan in place is just bad policy. Rusty, the "anti's" are a very small, but vocal community. There is a way to reach out to conservationists while ignoring the or diminishing ...

Re: Raritan river, Clairmont TCA
Report: It was a beautiful day and we only saw 3 other anglers, one at Gronksy's, one in the parking lot, and one who came upstream on us at the end of our session. The fishing was tough, Rusty was right, the water was mostly flat, slow and shallow. Very few spots for holding. There was a consistent...

Re: Raritan river, Clairmont TCA
Thanks. We usually follow the trail past the bridge (Gronsky's??) and put in well below it. It can be shallow in that stretch, but there are some spots that hold fish. Any action on top?

Raritan river, Clairmont TCA
Greetings legal gamblers. We are going to try the Clairmont stretch this Saturday. Any suggestions (about fishing) would be greatly appreciated. A report will be posted sometime on Monday.

Re: Musky "A Frame restoration" project starting soon
Hey Rusty, thanx for the information. Please keep it coming. I think that the populace is starting to come around to the idea that old dams should be removed. Look at the progress made in other states like PA, MA or CA.

Late to the party. I am Bubba Zinetti. I am an 18 year veteran of NJ, and a long time member of NJTrout. It is nice to be back. My wife and I fish in NJ and we make trips yearly to Ireland and to "Out West" This year we are spending 2 weeks in Colorado. It is nice to have the forum back, Thanks Tom.

Re: Vest or waist-pack? (And what about the net?)
If you have a relatively light net (you probably do), then clip it to the back of the collar of your shirt. That is what we do when we are fishing light.
