Re: Better fishing on the no frill brand water now

I usually dont start heading up to the deposit & hancock area until middle June anyway. The flows are usually to high for me to wade thru. I stay mainly in the no kill zones. But sometimes I fish the main stem for smallies. I sure do miss those wild trout up there for sure. Way different animals th...

Re: Better fishing on the no frill brand water now

Fresh fish... cant ask for more then that. Some of the fish that Ive been hooking into  like they went thru 4 rounds with Mike Tyson    I hear that! I have never in my life seen rivers and even smaller streams as packed with anglers as this year. For obvious reasons of course....

Re: Better fishing on the no frill brand water now

The Division stocked nearly all of their spring allocation of trout by the regular opening day. Next week they put out the last 55,000 across the state at random times and rivers. Fresh fish... cant ask for more then that. Some of the fish that Ive been hooking into  like they went thru 4 ro...

Re: Better fishing on the no frill brand water now

Maybe it has something to do with the makeshift stocking schedules. Dont quote me on this- i thought they stopped or limited the in-season stockings. I think i heard otherwise tho. if we're doing the "where am I" thing again; Ive Studdied this spot for a long time... and know exactly where this is ...

Re: Nymphin' The Black, 5/13/2020

Correct, the biostrike cant hold up weighted nymphs but remember , your indicator isnt meant to be a bobber ...... If thats the way you use an indicator, then like my wife says "you're doing it wrong!" You completely lost me. If a strike indicator is not to detect strikes which is what a bobb...

Re: Sulphurs...right on time

One good thing IMO that may come out of this is to keep the pre-season closure open next year and beyond, but on a C&R basis like this year. All the Federation anglers loved how this spring worked out and loved catching fish as soon as the winter left us (more or less). Look for Fish & Game Council ...

Re: Sulphurs...right on time

Went to the musky and threw some sulphurs. Fish were on them right quick. Snowshoe emerger and a dry did the trick, both size 14. Got fairly active around 4:30. I stayed an hour and I think it was getting better. Tomorrow I'll stay a bit longer. I just drove along the Musky from Hackettstown to the...

Re: Dredging Up Stockies

Twism, as you know, the club just above that area stocks big fish often and feeds them so they grow larger. I helped them with some hand work in the river that they had initially screwed up, so I have fished it. Big doesn't cover fish size. But my "best" fish caught in their stretch was a 9' native ...

Re: upper wanaque

The section below the reservoir to the 287 Bridge is now a WTS I believe and no longer stocked...I was just there 2 weeks ago and caught nothing. It was my first time fishing there...was just exploring new water. Some parts looked ok...a lot of downed trees in the river. Those downed trees are wher...

Re: Lower Wanaque Damaged Severely

Thanks Rusty for making the call. I was off line past 2 days with computer glitch but am back now. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. I did not make the call, but I am aware of someone else that did. The fact that they continue to do what they have been doing tells me they have...

Lol nah that's not me. That's what came to mind once you said quarry since I always say "damn, I'd love to fish there" every time I pass it. There seems to be more signs and cameras there than Fort Knox. Stop in and see me next time you drive by after the covid passes. Im at the local oldwick bar a...

Sulphurs!

Sulphurs are starting. Right now, they are on the mainstem of the Raritan and likely on the lower Delaware, but by the 13th or so, they will be on our trout waters as well. This is the most reliable dry fly hatch in our state, so make plans for afternoon and evening fishing if you want dry fly top a...

Re: Tippet Expiration Dates

When I guided, this was a non-issue as I went through multiple spools of each size every year. But now I noticed some sizes go a year or two, and I replace those even if there is line left. I have also had bad tippet spools right out of the factory at least a few times, and those were also quickly t...

Would be awesome for the black to be a better holdover river!
It would have both native brook trout and wild browns in good numbers in the state park and below with Kay dam removed....
