Re: Flows
There's a growing movement to approach Morris County Parks about removing the Kay Pond dam, a dam they rehabilitated not that many years ago......it completely wastes that river in summer and all the wild trout flee looking for thermal refuge when they shouldn't need it. All because of that dam. ho...

Re: WTS 5/3/2020
Dry fly fishing on the Upper Delaware system compered to small WTS are worlds apart IMO. On a small WTS those fish will hit anything that lands above them. With the choppy, broken up water and small pools they have less time to decide is something is a meal or not. On the long flat pools of the UD ...

Re: 15" wild brown
Well done. Caught in NJ? Yes and in one of our stocked waters which begs the question of why stock it if it can produce wild trout of this size? Usually the answer is because that stream or river doesn't produce nearly enough wild trout to stop stocking it. Right now, all eyes should be on the uppe...

Re: WTS 5/3/2020
That may be true on a wild trout stream but not technical dry fly water. I agree 100%, Joe. Was wondering where BT was doing his dry fly fishing and why I didn't know about that place. There's a reason 99% of all fly anglers either only nymph fish or nymph with occasionally streamer fishing, ...

Re: WTS 5/3/2020
Ditto Actually, dry fly fishing is like cheating. Takes are a lot easier to see, etc. I try to cheat every chance I get. I agree about dry-fly takes being easier. In my experience, dry-fly takes are not only easier to discern, but the approach, in general, is more forgiving: a wider margin for cast...

Depends on your turkey zone. I hunt turkey zone 7 and can buy a permit for every day of the season over the counter (or online) because my zone doesn't sell out.PortMurrayAng wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2020 1:37 pmHow difficult is it to get a Turkey permit? I'm guessing it's too late unless I see one in the yard.

Five minutes ago the sun poked out for a short time. Right now it's raining again and hard. No trout fishing in NJ except smaller tribs for a few days.....Delaware is just raging and climbing still. So tomorrow will be turkey hunting day instead.

Re: harvesting trout ?
Most of the shortages are minor as are the plant closings, but as with everything, the media blows it way out of proportion and that causes panic buying. My good friend is a butcher with the local Shop Rite chain. Wakefern who supplies all those stores upped their meat orders by 4X last week just to...

Re: Shad Fishing
The shad I was fishing for on Saturday were acting really strange-Even though the water was 10-15 feet deep, they were up in the water column and sometimes were breaking the surface for no reason that I could discern. The location I was fishing was perfect as it was this boulder encircled, swimming...

Re: State parks to open 5/2/20
Dumb day to begin the reopening IMO. Saturday is supposed to be very nice weather and the public will jam the parks and by Sunday the nation will be laughing at us on the national news networks. Open it today or wait until Monday and don't do it on the first nice weekend since the lock down. But wha...

Re: Breached dam and wild brookies in peril in the Lamington/Black River Watershed?
False alarm guys-my dad confirmed that he was talking about the Burnt Mills dam, which was removed from the Lamington in November. When he first mentioned it to me, he said it was that place we fished along time ago near 512 near the Hollowbrook. Apparently we fished by both dams in the past. Sorry...

I know where that spot is and it is one of the few areas without pressure other than locals for the most part. But I know all 42 miles of that river.....so that's cheating.

Re: 4/15
It's the same fly in all 3. I thought match brown, too. It led me to another question. Do flies start hatching in tribs earlier than on the rivers they flow into? It depends entirely on water temperature and what are called "degree days". Generally, hatches begin downstream and work upstream due to...

Re: Breached dam and wild brookies in peril in the Lamington/Black River Watershed?
Hi All- My dad went for a walk in the past week and he said it looked like the dam on the old Pottersville reservoir was being taken down. This dam/area has been talked about a few times over the past years on different threads, but as a reminder, there are almost all wild browns below the dam and ...

Re: Breached dam and wild brookies in peril in the Lamington/Black River Watershed?
There has been no permits issued that I can find online on DEP Data Miner. Any in-stream work on a WTS could happen after March 15, but any project in stream would require necessary freshwater wetlands stream encroachment permit of one kind or the other.
