Re: Handling Trout for C&R
Modern rubber mesh nets make C&R so easy these days. That and a good pair of hemostats. As others said, there really is little need to ever handle the trout or other fish if your plan is to release it unharmed. As for when you do handle a fish, it takes but a mere second to get your hands wet before...

A buddy that lives in Jackson sent pix this morning of hordes of them in that part of NJ. Still not seeing any up here just yet.

Re: Five days on the upper Delaware coming up
My 20th Trout Louts trip with a great group of guys and gals. We will be at the Dreamcatcher Lodge on the banks of the West Branch through the Holiday weekend, fishing dry flies, telling lies, and drinking fine whiskey while sharing lots of laughs. Then it's full on field season where I will have l...

Sorry, but I forgot: what time did you say to be there? I'm driving an F-150 Super Crew cab these days, so...

Lopatcong Creek restoration to begin in June
Trout Unlimited hired my firm (Trout Scapes River Restoration LLC) to restore 1 1/2 miles of the Lopat in Lopatcong, Greenwich and Philipsburg near route 22 and Stryker Road. This project will restore vertical banks to a 3:1 slope, better allowing the river access to its floodplain. In-stream habita...

Re: It's warm.
And just like magic, temps have tumbled back down to safe levels and should remain there at least another week. However, not much in the way of rain in sight anytime soon. Best chance days are only 30-40%.

Re: Northern Snakeheads
Man, I hope they haven't found their way to Northwest Jersey, aka trout country. I know they have become quite common in DC/Maryland as well in and around Philadelphia and south Jersey. I don't know what their tolerance for cold water is. I am told they taste very good-in most jurisdictions you are...

Re: It's warm.
The SBR is worse than the Musky right now. I was on the upper Musky above Point Mountain yesterday and water topped out at 64F. That river has more water in it. We do have cooler days and nights coming next week, but we desperately need rain and there's none in the forecast.

Re: Wet Wading Season Opener
I prefer to wet wade from May onward. The one exception is if I am going to be wading waste deep or more for extended periods in a tail water. Last fathers day I fished a tail water with temps in the low 50s-it was bizzare as the air temp got into the high 80s/low 90s and my face was sweating but m...

Re: Wet Wading Season Opener
I wore waders yesterday and felt silly it was so warm. But I had forgotten my Simms wet wading socks, so waders it was. However, I did wet wade during our Virginia stream restoration job the other week as it was very warm down there at the time. I'll be on the upper Delaware next week, but those wat...

Re: Quick trip
Those wild brookies come from a tributary above Shannon's Private Water/Raritan Inn. The private water sees a fair number of wild brookies in certain areas (where the big browns and bows don't hang) and always has.

Re: Warmth Under Waders
I wear jeans mostly under my waders except in winter when jeans aren't warm enough. But with water temps in the 60s, I was wet wading in Virginia for work (wasn't fishing, just working in the river). If I'm fishing a tailwater that is colder than freestoners, then I may wear long johns under my jea...

Re: Cicadas--the 'filet mignon' for fish?
The biggest hoax in the world put on us by fly fishing magazines is that the cicada hatch will be important. Every 7 o 10 years, there is supposed to be a super emergence as there is this year, so fly mags run stories of huge trout caught on foam cicadas. And they add the obligatory tying instructio...

Re: Musky
Hi, Fished the Musky today at Pt.Mt. by Penwell Rd. Had a great day catching Rainbows then lo and behold caught two Brookies. Both about 5inches long. They were small but with beautiful colors. Question. Did the state stock a bunch of Brook Trout? Are these stream bred? It would be nice to know if ...
