Re: Water Temps
They are too expensive to maintain without a supporting funder. I tried many times to have TU fund one for either the Musky or the SBR gauge but nobody seemed interested. Some stations do have them such as Spruce Run in Glen Gardner, the Pequannock at two sites, etc. That temp in GG goes up and dow...

Re: Cut-off temp for summer trout?
New to this forum--and an enthusiast of limited experience--so I want to ask: What water temperature is considered the high cut-off point for trout fishing? I agree with 68...but, If you take the temp in the morning, and it's hot out, check every half hour or so as the temperature of the water can ...

Re: Catfishing from the Bank
I have cat fished for many years in Spruce Run reservoir. Worms work fine. Also go at night after a rain and fish the peninsula by Mueller Toyota. Cast, let it sink and wait. They will also eat spinners, rattletraps, pretty much anything but a stinky bait works best. be ready though as I have lande...

Re: Raritan river- rough week ! 6/30/20:
I saw this in Worthington State Park years ago. In the glen by Van Campen's. Dirty diapers, styrofoam all sorts of shit. I complained to TU and the park service. the park service was very helpful. TU not at all. I tried to organize a clean-up. Park rangers said they would help..TU said no thanks, we...

Re: Nymph and Streamer Leader
I dont get too caught up in it. I use a leader tapered to 4x usually 8.5 to 9 feet. I tie tippet on accordingly. River conditions dictate the tippet size usually, fly selection and distance dictate the length. Usually I just use what's on there. I'm a lazy fisherman. If I fish a streamer, I'll just ...

Re: Wader question ?
Stop peeing yourself dude... :D I have used Simms, some name I forget after a fly shop out west, Orvis silver something, the Wal Mart brand, Simms foriegn brand and recently since my Simms G3 zipper broke, my friend let me borrow some Orvis waders which were pretty awesome, but... They all last abou...

Re: Is Facebook Killing Trout?
Interesting read but its the same one I have read dozens of times over from different authors and researchers. People have been taking pictures of their fish and boasting about it long before Facebook had an impact. Forums like this used to be flooded with topics and pictures during prime trout sea...

Re: C&R
Haha - I hear you. It's not malicious by any means, it's just that people do not know any better. Agreed, but I have also seen jerks start yelling at those anglers which is not helpful. Just have a polite conversation and inform them of the consequences of their actions and most will stop fishing o...

I fished the KLG tonight. I arrived at 6:45 PM, the water temp was 68 degrees exactly. It's 85 tomorrow. Stay home until it cools off.

Re: Pequannock river
While I'm not familiar woth the P. I fish a wild trout stream in NJ that seems to have mirrored that. The decline started 5 years ago though. But..this year it seems to be improving greatly. Lots of 5 to 6 inch little trout and few in the 10 to 12 inch. Hopefully both are ciclical or low water issue...

Re: fishing nets
The reason I didnt have a net for the longest is as long as I seen what Im releasing Im good with that. Im even happier when its a gentleman's release. They unhook themselves afterwards  I always prefer the "short distance release" when fishing for pickerel.... Nothing Gentlemanly about those ...

Re: Sipping Rusty Spinners
I’m still confused by all the people I see in waders? I dont wet wade anymore. Read a few people that contracted possible infections parasite from a possible open wound from wet wading If you don’t have any open wounds then you are not at risk. Until you get one of them barbed hooks in your bare le...
