Re: SBRR encroachers

the Drake's Brook stocking completely explains it, especially the ones Drossi and I caught along different points along Bartley Rd. I did not know Drake's was stocked. Now I have to say it- that is a STUPID plan by the State. WTH would you create a new WTS designation, with the apparent intention of...

Re: SBRR encroachers

Re: SBRR encroachers

There was no noticeable beaver engineering in the part I walked. Most of the old deadfall blockages I remember have gotten washed away except for in the first "S" bend about 80 yards upstream from the concrete footpath bridge. Also, it was shocking to see how far over the banks it has overflowed the...

SBRR encroachers

I hit the old Claremont TCA section of the SBRR yesterday. The flow was excellent, best I've seen the river look in ages.... really thought I would pick up a few wild browns. Instead I get these two state inmates. Pretty sure the club rainbows are the nice Kamloops from Asbury, no? Not these things....

Re: Maine North Woods next week

Nice. We have a 185 acre farm on one side of route 16 in New Lisbon/Garrattsville and a new 112 acre farm with standing corn, a trout stream, several ponds, and wetlands across the road. We will have 8 guys up for rifle season and we usually do very well up there. How is the grouse habitat fairing ...

Re: Maine North Woods next week

Just back from my upstate NY bow and small game trip. Lots of woodcock, but rabbits and grouse populations were fairly low for us. We flew grouse, but nobody got a good shot on one. I didn't get any shots at grouse myself, but went 3 for 3 on woodcock. The only bunny I saw ran right at a buddy who ...

Re: Maine North Woods next week

Too bad it was a down cycle year for grouse. They are my favorite small game to pursue, hands down! At least the fish cooperated. Any woodcock? we saw two... the guys in the cabin next to us bagged a few, but they had pointers. Just back from my upstate NY bow and small game trip. Lots of woodcock,...

Bamboo and brookies! Couldn't make out the writing, what rod were you fishing?

Looks like a great trip.
It's a Headwaters. MIC, but very nice. A buddy gifted it to me. 7 1/2' 4/5Wt.

Re: Maine North Woods next week

Not a good partridge year unfortunately... bird count was VERY low. our cabin neighbors who have been coming here together in 1964 said it is one of the worst years they remember. Fishing was a little bit better, as we picked up a few keeper brookies and landlocked salmon for the frying pan. The fol...

Maine North Woods next week

Heading up to Seboomook and north area this coming week for yearly pa'tridge trip. First time that we are able to get some fishing in as well with booking the overlap of seasons! Brookies in the ponds and streams and hopefully some landlocked salmon in the West Branch Penobscot. Best week of the year!

Re: Rancocas creek (again)

those are some nice clean cats' right there. I grew up in Arkansas, and Catfish Houses are almost as common down there as BBQ joints. Those two would be awesome deep fried with some hush puppies, cole slaw, and sweet tea.

Re: Moonshine Rod Co.

I tell you one thing... they have incredible customer service. Send an email, and you have an answer from an owner (Tate) within an hour or so, even on weekends. Their better rods are made in ROK (which most are), with maybe some specialty rods made in TN-USA. I bought a Vesper 9' 5WT to replace the...

Kid's first brook trout

My nephew's first brookie.... the kid was so stoked he called me from standing in the water. He was supposed to go with us in a couple weeks for a North Woods Maine cast n blast trip, but cant make it. He was looking forward to some Maine brookies and has been on a NJ quest the past week since temps...

Re: Franklin pond creek

it used to be stocked. It was the first stream that I took my daughters trout fishing. But that was around the same time as that 2004 report. It was quality water at the time.
