Re: Raritan river, Clairmont TCA

I was lucky enough to have off from work today and fished that area. I managed to land 3 wild browns, all around 6" and caught about twice as many trees!!!

Re: New Stretch of River (at least for me)

Nice pics. I fish that stretch occasionally, nice looking water but has severe thermal issues during the Summer and few to none holdovers, exception would be the deepest pools. The pools weren't that deep except for the run just after the dam. Hopefully it will stay cool enough to fish for a while ...

New Stretch of River (at least for me)

I got out for a few hours early on Saturday to try a section of the Rockaway River that I have never fished before. Spent about 2.5 hours on the river and managed to land 3 rainbows and lost a few others. Here are a few photos. https://i.imgur.com/OVJKMZZl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/J0V1IH7l.jpg https:...

Re: Flat Brook on Monday

Sounds like a good day to be on the water. I remain somewhat concerned over the all rainbow stockings that are with us for several more years at the least and their effects on license sales and trout stamp sales. But hopefully the raceways get covered and solar powered soon and the Division can onc...

Flat Brook on Monday

I hit one of my go to spots on Flat Brook on Monday and the stockie rainbows did not disappoint. Landed 7 and lost a bunch more (barbless hooks). Most took bead head flashback pheasant tail nymph but I got a few on the surface using a parachute adams and also got a few using a wet fly on the swing. ...

We do monthly disaster recovery tests on the generator and transfer switch at our office, hard to believe that the hatcheries wouldn't do the same.

Re: NY State Hatchery Issue

I work with automatic transfer switches, I can only imagine the age and shape of the device and how frequently a gov agency serviced and tested the thing. What a shame. NY State Hatchery Issue

I received the following in an e-mail from the NY DEC. DEC Update on Adirondack Hatchery Power Outage On May 4, a storm that brought severe high winds to much of upstate New York caused widespread power outages in many locations throughout the North Country, including DEC’s Adirondack Hatchery. Alth...

Re: Flat Brook - 3 Bridges

All on spinners Cappy, I am getting my fly rod for fathers day this year. Dying to learn the art! It can be frustrating at first, but loads fun and addictive once you get the hang of it. If you have a pond near you I would get out there as often as you can with the fly rod and practice on the blueg...

I use olive and black mostly but I have used purple for salmon and steelhead successfully.

Is it all fly fishing only?
Been a while since I fished that section but I believe it is fly only upstream from 3 Bridges and not downstream, but I would definitely check the regs because like I said it has been a few years since I fished it.

Re: Flat Brook - 3 Bridges

Hi Mike, If memory serves, I'd put "Peters Valley School of Craft in Layton, NJ" into your GPS. From there, start looking for the Big Flat. Like I tell my son who's learning to fly fish: part of the joy, of course, is finding a good spot; but the exploration of finding the spot can be just as excit...
