Re: NJ Stockies

Fish an articulated streamer like a Sex Dungeon or Drunk & Disorderly which have stinger hooks on the back and your short strike issue nearly disappears for good. I find a lot of NJ anglers fish nothing larger than a size 10 woolly bugger, but don't be afraid to toss a much larger streamer here loc...

Re: NJ Stockies

With streamers I like to run the hook through the sharpener 4 or 5 times before I start fishing a new fly. Then again later if I'm nicking the bottom periodically. Sharp hooks increase hook ups and holds with the larger streamer hooks. I thought it was a hook issue so I even swapped out to new stre...

NJ Stockies

I got out on the river the other day and was lucky enough to find a bunch of NJ Stockies that were all happy to hit just about anything I threw. Started off catching them on nymphs, then I saw some risers taking caddis flies so I tied on a elk hair caddis and took a few. The most fun came when I dec...

Re: Shannon's One Fly

It sounds like flies have to be tied on site before the start. I have a travel bag for my tying stuff. I'll just bring it. The next question is: do I use a mop'n'glo? Or a less effective, but socially acceptable, hare's ear? I fished Wednesday and the trout were going crazy over an olive woolly bug...

Re: 1st River Trip of the 2019 Trout Season

Nice fish. I fished the FB Saturday morning. Water was brown and moving, wasn't expecting it to be so high, must of received more rain then projected. Managed six, a couple were nice size. When the sun came out late morning I saw a few Hendrickson coming off. Not enough surface activity to switch f...

Re: 1st River Trip of the 2019 Trout Season

I seed that fish on instagram....how are the frog's toggs working out? :D I'm really liking the Frogg Toggs. They seem real durable but yet light weight. The neoprene boots seem to be a little smaller in terms of width/height not length than other waders I have had which means less bunched up mater...

1st River Trip of the 2019 Trout Season

I finally got a chance to hit a river since trout season opened. Water flow was excellent and the river was very clear. Only saw one other guy fishing downstream of me. There was a hatch of what looked to me like small stone flies coming off the river right before dark. I'm not 100% sure if that is ...

Re: I Need Some New Waders

I have used the Redington Sonic Pro for 4 years. No complaints, had gotten them back then from Shannon's. Great zip-up waders, and a good value. Highly Recommended. They come in a good selection of sizes. Pocket's are good as well. Those look pretty nice, I also noticed they have an HD version that...

Waders

As you may have read in an earlier post of mine I am probably going to have to purchase some new waders. Does anyone have any experience with DRYFT waders? https://dryftfishing.com/shop/s14-adrenaline-wader/ This look nice, have great reviews. I like the fact that the are made with 5 layer lowers wh...

Re: I Need Some New Waders

I was impressed with the high end Chota waders I saw at the show in Edison, and they won't break the bank. The Hodgeman H4 and H5 waders were also nice with reasonable prices, especially if you shop online and know the size you need. The new Orvis lightweight waders were also nice, higher price but...

Re: stuck in a rut

Except for the last brown I caught I have noticed that the trout have been only taking my flies when fished on the bottom and extremely slow. I checked the water temp on Saturday and saw 42 at the bottom about 4' down but closer to 38/39 near the surface. I think the snow melt is causing the upper t...

I am very happy with my pair of Redington sonic pros that I got them from back country during a 40% off sale. I try to support local as much as I can, but that was money I could not leave on the table.
I'm not familiar with those, I'll have to check them out.

Thanks

Re: I Need Some New Waders

https://i.imgur.com/UvwkKIT.jpg Cant beat a pair of Simms G4 zip ups. Ive had these for a few years. Not 1 leak. No sweating in the summer. I layer these up with some 5.0 UnderArmour in the Winter When I go for Steel heads up in Pulaki NY. Toasty warmer then Neoprene. I would love to get a pair of ...

Re: I Need Some New Waders

No reason you can't repair those, even with a 4" tear. Cut a patch at least 5" long by maybe 2" wide and use Aqua Seal. I once tore about a 3" gash in what at the time was a brand new pair of Simms G3s on a Hyde driftboat anchor cleat getting out quickly to fight a big brown that took my line under...

I Need Some New Waders

I was lucky enough to learn about a new location from a friend so I headed out in search of wild browns. As I was hiking into the river I was happy to see that the only trail was a not so used deer trail. The feeling of being able to fish a river that doesn't get a lot of pressure was awesome. I got...

Re: POLY LEADERS

WHEN TO USE A SINKING POLYLEADER VS. A SINK-TIP Although polyleaders come in sinking densities, as noted they don’t have as much mass as a level “T” sink-tip (for example: T-10). Consequently, they work great for small to medium size flies that are un-weighted or lightly weighted. That being said, ...
