Re: nj brookies... ever again?
All, thanks for the comments, conspiracy theories and all :D Brian, with respect to "solar panels"... Am I understanding it's not solar panels per se, but covering the raceways, that is blocking rearing brooks or browns? or is there something else regarding the "solar panels" that is the issue? How ...

nj brookies... ever again?
ok, this was posted on another board: "You will never EVER see Brook Trout stocked in New Jersey again, and I heard that from the top ! Which is a damn shame considering what I saw come out of the Raritan river." what say ye? do you think NJ will ever go back to stocking our native trout again? (no ...

Re: Acadia NP
My brother and I fished Acadia in August about 15 years ago. We didn't really have a plan, but stopped at several likely looking brooks and found lots of willing but small trout. I am told you can find sea run brookies in the fall as well-we were fishing very close the ocean. We tried several ponds...

Re: Albies starting to show on northern NJ beaches
this is my annual "anyone see more of the albies" post, before responding "work has kicked up again"! :geek: so what is it? did they disappear or still around or expected to show? we've got a ton of blues around our islands, and a couple of weeks ago I netted some baby pompano, while trying for (and...

Re: Wader recomendations
My last pair got cracks in the rubber boots. No matter what I did with shoe glue / shoe gloo it wouldn't stop leaks. What I did, because they were small leaks, was were heavy duty trash bags over my pants, then slipped my legs into the waders. The cold water would never get to my wool socks/sweat p...

Re: Wader recomendations
Hey Robtf, Alcohol applied over the inside. Pinholes will show up as a darkened, or wet looking spot. Apply a slight smear of aquel or aquaseal or whatever wader repair stuff you use to the spot on the inside(no need to wait for the alcohol to dry). Let it dry and cure, and voila! Our friends who f...

Re: Wader recomendations
I get or average 3 years out of a pair of waders and that's about it. I patch any and all pinholes that are typically caused by multi flora rose thorns while walking to or from the river. My guess is 90% of all wader leaks are directly associated with pinhole leaks and those are NEVER a reason to s...

Re: Who remembers Cam? Funny story
I remember Cam and glad all is well ,with him and his family and that he is back fishing. If I remember correctly I introduced him to the Toms and spent time with him showing him some of my secret spots and the most productive way to fish the Toms. I haven't fished for about a year because of the p...

Re: Toms River
Thanks, John. Yes, I haven't even checked the gauges, but figured as much since our local ponds have been so high.
Still, the question remains, as I'm hoping to pick a time to go after a dry week and see. Have a few nice muddler minnows waiting to try

Toms River
Has anyone fished the Toms lately? I wondered how the rainbows holdover there nowadays? Yes, it's hot, but normally the drier the weather, the cooler the Toms runs in the TCA due to upstream springs. Heavy showers and rising waters usually warm it up, but the steam temps drop again fairly rapidly. S...

Re: Best fly line for striped bass
But for the shore this is a game changer fly rod, if my first impression is correct. I think I remember reading you post something along those lines, though it could have been someone else :D It is 100%. But there have been days where the fish are right in the trough in front of your feet and then ...

Re: Best fly line for striped bass
I've been fishing either 36' Rio intermediate shooting heads on my two-handed rod attached to 120' level floating line by Airflow or a 90' Sci Angler intermediate sink on my regular 9 foot 9 weight. Fly line develops a memory when left on the reel over long periods of time. The first thing I do - f...

nice, I think the cormorants took all the ones placed in our mudholes in SJ.
tried a SJ stocked stream today but it was blown out from yesterday's rain.
