Re: Shad season
My buddy who wins lots of fishig tourneys has already been doing well to okay in the Lambertville area, and I know another buddy that has already been into some fish as high up as Poxono in the big D.

Re: First time fly fishing
I believe every fly you have will catch fish right now.....Worry about bugs and their lifecycle and spooking fish. They eat easier when they are comfortable. Most of all.have fun and be prepared to tie lots of knots and keep yer tippet fresh! Ditto on what lightenup says here. also, don't forget a ...

Re: Private/club water on lower Pohat
Not much decent water in there due to the upstream farmer farming way too close to the river and losing massive amounts of banks into the stream every year. That and it backs up whenever the Delaware floods since the club was on the last two properties on that river above where it enters the Delawar...

Not sure, but the old club broke up a few years ago already.

Re: Van Campens restoration project.
It wasn't Fred Burroughs chapter. I won't say here as it was more than 10 years ago....you know these people well Rusty. Yes Federal (my bad) park Rangers agreeed to come along as there were many unsavory people around Vam Campen then. Especially the Glen. The Feds played along TU wouldn't and when...

Re: Van Campens restoration project.
I tried to get a New Jersey chapter of TU many years ago to do a stream clean-up. I got the State park rangers to agree to come along and help. I was told that TU doesn't play well with the State Parks and that it wasn't their area...well at that time no one had that area then. I told them to enjoy...

Re: Shad season
Its right around the corner. I ordered/received a bunch of shad darts and shad spoons in February just to be sure that I had them in time of this year's shad run-last year a lot of these items were back-ordered in April as everyone was scrambling to buy them all at once. I found fishing a 1/16 oz s...

Re: Montana brown
I'm not familiar with the area, but is it a possibility that the fish swam up from a lake into the river? Perhaps that means it could have been stocked large and grown larger. That fish looks like it feed off pellets and fish shit. Like the giants in New Zealand that sit down stream from the salmon...

Re: 2021 Regulations and Stocking Information?
Anyone know the stocking dates, protocol for this coming season and associated rules? I assume the C&R only stretches remain open regardless. Here is what we learned last week that I posted on another hunting forum..... Looks like I even beat the Division's press release this time. Hot off the pres...

It won't be long now!
So we got a real winter once again. Like most of you, I'm ready for spring. But a nice day like today (I was stuck inside) makes you want to grab the fly rod and walk through some snow to drop a line with an LBS nymph dangling down in the depths. As nice as it is on days like this, the rivers are fl...

Re: Ice fishing this weekend!
Looks like the dinner plate sized sunfish, jumbo perch, and monster pickerel finally cooperated! How thick is the ice now? As you predicted, has the insulating snow slowed down the thickening of the ice? The other side of that coin is that even as it gets warmer, the snow will slow down melting, ri...

Re: Ice fishing this weekend!
Some pix from my Saturday outing, my third of the winter. That's a good five years of ice fishing for me under normal years.

Re: Montana or Northern New Mexico?
Did you see it was -20 in Montana with added wind chill? It's a nice place to visit in the summer and fall, but live there? Hmmmm. Arizona is nice I hear. True, but that is the exception to the rule. An average day for Bozeman in winter is in the 30s or low 40s in daytime and below freezing at nigh...

Re: Montana or Northern New Mexico?
New Mexico has some beautiful areas as does Montana, but NM is largely a welfare state. If I ever were to live in NM, it would be the Chama area, and it would have little by way of hospitals and doctors if that is a concern. Sante Fe is an artists' colony and has a lot to offer, but it's not close t...

Re: Ice fishing this weekend!
Did anyone get out on the ice this weekend? I fished twice so far through the hard water. Once on the private lake community where I grew up two weekends back and on Saturday this past weekend on Swartswood Lake. Both outings were tough fishing for a few pickerel and yellow perch. But both fun time...
