Good stuff! Any black flies still around?
No! We had surprisingly few bugs all five days. Some mosquitos and some deer flies, but I never used bug spray of any type and wasn't slapping at my exposed skin all day. We got lucky!

Re: Headed to NH's White Mtns for brookies

It was a great trip complete with the obligatory nuisance bear in the campground most nights. I need to download pix off my phone and will upload a bunch here. Those that are Facebook friends have already seen them there. A wild, native brook trout behind every rock for the most part, great scenery,...

Re: Headed to NH's White Mtns for brookies

Hopefully the weather cooperates for tenting...good luck, safe travels!! Thanks. Right now, weather up there is only supposed to be bad (raining) tomorrow and nice the rest of my trip. I have all the gear I will ever need to camp in any weather, so at least I can stay dry regardless. Plus I can sle...

Headed to NH's White Mtns for brookies

Leaving tomorrow morning and tent camping with some of the Native Fish Coalition members and leadership for our first Trout Rendezvous. Lots of water up there, so we will likely hike up smaller tributaries and chase native brook trout. Returning Tuesday or Wednesday of next week and then back to wor...

Re: North East flooding.

I was surprised to hear that this was worse than Hurricane Irene for parts of Vermont. We at the Native Fish Coalition remain concerned about channelization using bulldozers like we saw post Irene. So far, Vermont state government has given us some assurances that they will not allow such broad, non...

The dog days of summer are upon us

So, is anyone still getting out to tailwaters, spring creeks or the smaller and cooler streams for trout or are we all now focused on other species to chase? I am likely headed out for fluke and blues with some buddies on one of their boats tomorrow. I have a 5 day trip later this month for brookies...

Re: Paulinskill by Columbia WMA

I believe that area is all open again now that the dam removal and native plantings are long completed. Trout won't do great in the lower river in summer due to temps, but once the Paulina dam is removed (this year??), it will help cool the river even more. Shad cannot be targeted except in the Dela...

Re: Who fishes the Lehigh River here ?

For those that might not know, he's talking about the "big" Lehigh and not the Little Lehigh. Wish I could help, but that remains one fairly local river I have yet to fish in my lifetime. But I do have my annual PA non resident license this year.....

Re: walking in the river

To be honest I have a pair of Cabelas lightweights that I really like, I had them before and switched to the Korkers cause I fell in love with the fallacy of interchangeable soles. I got another pair now with the felt and studs that I need to start using more. Just need to make sure I keep spare la...

Re: fly rod shad

Nice. I've never targeted them this late. I see how skinny they are post spawn, but that weight will go back on once they start filter feeding heavily once again. They are a blast on a 7 weight!

Re: walking in the river

I wouldn't wear Korkers if you gave me a free pair monthly. They are the only manufacturer whose soles I find at least one of on nearly every fishing trip. That doesn't happen with any other manufacturer. Chota and Simms have done me well over the years and I can own any brand out there and don't h...

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but count me as someone that will never be impressed by the size of any stocked fish.

Re: never caught a trout so low on the main stem of raritan

I fished there yesterday. good guy imo. there was 2 guys that trespassed in. the owner was nice about it. told them it was private property. allowed them to fish that day if they C&R'ed. It was bait guys & they left rite away. they didnt catch anything anyway while I was there. theres a nice run ab...

Re: Fishing Emergers Question

I find a Pheasant tail soft hackle fished dry works on most mayfly hatches as an emerger. Tie them on dry fly hooks and use thread instead of wire....you can also swing it wet....doesn't always work, but it did the other night during a sulphur hatch. I've also been partial to flymphs which is a PT ...

Re: Fishing Emergers Question

I had a few free hours this week so I was able to hit one of my local rivers and found myself in an insane sulfur hatch just before dark. Trout were rising all around me so I tied on a dry that I thought matched the hatch but I was unable to get any to eat. I also saw some spinners on the water so ...
