Re: Some expensive striper filets

Very happy to see that and it was the result of callers to the tip line which makes it even better.

Re: Central Jersey Recommendations

The Hockhockson is a small and very shallow Brook and parking is very limited. It is worth trying but don’t get your hopes up. There are a few ponds around such as Mohawk in Red Bank and the one in Holmdel Park that have been stocked.

Re: Recommend a 3wt for Bluegill

I can definitely second the St Croix Avid. Excellent quality and reasonably priced in my opinion. I’ve had a 6 foot 3 weight for 10+ years and love it, probably too short for your needs but longer should be perfect.

Re: Winter Stockings

The KLG was stocked in the Fall. I was there a few days after the stocking, the water was extremely low and it was pretty obvious that there were new fish in the river.

Re: Gearing Up for Fishing

I have 3 fly rods and neither of them have been taken apart for at least 10 years. Some may frown on this but it works for me and I haven’t had any problems.

Those of us that are 70+ don’t need a license just a form of ID that shows our date of birth. One of the few benefits that come with old age.

Not the Toms - no boulders or rocks there. Otherwise there is some resemblance.

Would .7 miles upstream from the Lake Solitude dam put the gauge in the Club water?

Re: Summer Trout

That’s why I use a 6 foot 3 weight with a 4 weight double taper line and seldom use anything but streamers there which can be worked under bushes and through the deep holes. It’s definitely not for everybody which is why you seldom see anyone else fishing there, not to mention the area is tick infes...

Re: Summer Trout

The State still stocks the Toms in fact the TCA receives about 1000 trout during a typical season. The Brookies held over well and provided good fishing year round. In 2007 we electrofished the TCA on Sept 5th, shortly before the Fall stocking. In the typical 100 yard stretch for electro fishing we ...

Re: Summer Trout

The Toms River stays cool year round. I have fished it for years and never seen the temperature above 68 degrees. Fished it about 10 days ago and temp was 64 degrees. That being said the fishing there hasn’t been the same since the State stopped stocking Brookies and browns. The rainbows don’t do we...

Re: Tippet Expiration Dates

I have never paid any attention to expiration dates and have never had a problem to the best of my knowledge. As far as I know most tippet manufacturers don’t even have expiration dates on their products.

Re: Changes to NJ trout season about to be announced

For some reason the info under What’s New on the FandW website was taken down. It said all State Parks are closed and listed the waters in those parks were closed to fishing and also indicated that all stocking for the season will be completed by 4/10.
