Re: Fall Stripers

If you are fishing the meadowlands area, you may also tangle with some feisty white perch, Stripers spirited little cousins!

Re: Alright, which one of you forgot to do a rain dance??

While flows and rainfall may not be ideal, it doesnt look catostrophic for the spawn. We seem to have settled into a regular pattern of some rain a few days a week.

Re: Fall stocking

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC01EzA7BMc I guess its the same in West Virginia-these guys are just waiting for the stocking trout to show up. I guess everyone has their own reason to fish. Its not my cup of tea, but some would just prefer a sure catch. I went hunting exactly once in my life-A fr...

Re: Alright, which one of you forgot to do a rain dance??

https://www.weather.gov/marfc/NJPrecipitation365Day Here is a helpful link to see rain deficits in various increments over the past year. One other issue that impacts ground water in NJ is that so many of our trout streams flow through areas with significant residential development and most/all of ...

Re: Alright, which one of you forgot to do a rain dance??

Could be about an inch today and then a more regular pattern of some rain every few days. I have a feeling its going to be a cold and snowy winter.

Re: Alright, which one of you forgot to do a rain dance??

Looks like the rain is continuing off and on and strong flows are being sustained in Morris, Hunterdon, Passaic counties-looks like the rainfall hasn't been as consistent in Sussex county. With the cold weather and increased flows, fish will be looking to get ready to spawn.

Re: Alright, which one of you forgot to do a rain dance??

Today's rain looks more widespread and substantial throughout trout country. I have never felt it this cold and rainy for so long down here in the DC area-we havent seen the sun since Thursday and its been stuck in 40s/low 50s with off and on rain-I even had to put the heat on to take the chill off ...

I can't imagine the humiliation of being proven a cheater red handed in front of hundreds of spectators.

Re: Alright, which one of you forgot to do a rain dance??

Well, water temps are certainly no longer a factor but lows are darned low. Looking at the radar, there is some decent rain pushing off the ocean into NW NJ now.

Re: DC and VCB

I don't have any better suggestions. I used to park at the Glen and spend a full day hiking as far as I could and then walk back on Old Mine road. I somehow always managed to do well, even on somewhat crowded fall and early spring days. Those big pools always yielded fish unless someone was actively...

West Virginia stocking and fishing

Skip to about 7:10 if you want to see a camouflaged, chaw chewing guy that looks like Jesus catch a big brook trout and then dance a jig.

DC and VCB

Has anyone fished these streams lately? Are the brookies still holding on or have browns and rainbows taken over? Although popular and often heavily trafficked, these used to be some of my favorite streams due to the natural beauty, public access, and good density of multiple species of wild trout, ...

Re: Alright, which one of you forgot to do a rain dance??

Looks like the SBR bumped up just over median flows. Not sure if flows are still rising or if they have hit their peak. Hopefully the additional showers will sustain flows a bit.

Re: Alright, which one of you forgot to do a rain dance??

Looks like trout country is getting some decent rain. More importantly, it looks to be a steady rain over a few days which is better for soaking in compared to fast hitting storms that flash flows.

Re: Wild Brook trout

This stream had Labrador strain brook trout planted in the 70s after the reservoir was built. Apparently when they built the reservoir, they completely disrupted the stream flows and extirpated the brookies that had been there. The fact that it was a tail water with plenty of bait fish coupled with ...

Re: Alright, which one of you forgot to do a rain dance??

Yet to your west and also in VA, they have had a similar dry year. That site we restored on Piney Run in NW Loudoun County near Harper's Ferry, WV has had low water nearly the entire summer including today. I can't explain it-we went to the back in southern Delaware last week and it was also parche...

Re: Rapidan River, Shenandoah National Park

Thats right-the Shenandoah NP is huge with lots of water and trails, but it absorbs visistors from the whole DMV region and beyond. Those other places just a bit further west are a bit more of a drive and probably get much less visitors.
