Re: Tippet rings - thoughts?

This video (both creepy and hilarious with the Barbee Doll) suggests tippet rings are either "the best thing since sliced bread or may represent the end of civilized fly fishing as we know it." In any case, I definitely like them for nymphing but am yet to use them on a dry fly (microdrag issu...

For Sale: 7/8 TFO Rod plus Teton Tioga Reel with line

I have a barely-used TFO 7/8 wt 9 ft 4 piece rod, with a sack and case, plus a Tioga Reel and fly line that I want to get rid of. I used the rod maybe 5 times a few years ago...it's otherwise been stored in the case.

PM me if you're interested.

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness

[M]ost here don't know that we regulate hunting, fishing and trapping not only based on science, but also based on popular culture at the time. That's good to hear, but I doubt many would ultimately find that surprising. The word "policy" comes from the Greek "politeia," which roughly means "citize...

You can make numbers say what you want them to say.

Re: Headwaters Passaic R -Jockey Hollow NHP and the Audubon societys Scherman Hoffman Sanctuary

10-15 years ago, this was a decent place to fish. However, now it's only a ghost of its former self. One angler I spoke to recently said drought is to blame for the decline in fish. The last time I was there I hooked into a small brown trout. Even though I live nearby, I don't fish it anymore. If yo...

A strike indicator that floats IS a bobber... A bobber, like the red and white ones on the end of your zebco rod. A strike indicator that is a piece of colored line is NOT a bobber...😉👍
It depends on what your definition of is, is. 😂

Re: Better fishing on the no frill brand water now

The Division stocked nearly all of their spring allocation of trout by the regular opening day. Next week they put out the last 55,000 across the state at random times and rivers. Fresh fish... cant ask for more then that. Some of the fish that Ive been hooking into  like they went thru 4 ro...

Has anyone ever had to improvise for a strike indicator? For example, one time I used a leaf.

I have also seen a very experienced fly fisherman use two strike indicators or different colors so he knew which direction his fly was in relation to the indicators.
Why not use three indicators so you can also capture movement along the Z axis....

Tenkara, no indicator needed.
Or, euro-nymphing, no indicator needed.
Or, dry fly fishing, no indicator needed.
How come no indicator needed with the Tenkara?

Re: Nymphin' The Black, 5/13/2020

Correct, the biostrike cant hold up weighted nymphs but remember, your indicator isnt meant to be a bobber...... If thats the way you use an indicator, then like my wife says "you're doing it wrong!" TMI broski, TMI! But if the indicator gets overpowered by the weighted nymph, it seems ...

Re: Nymphin' The Black, 5/13/2020

I like the idea of biostrike but have heard it doesn't hold up when using weighted nymphs. Never used it. A few year ago when my wife and I fished out West, our guide there outfitted us with the "pompom" indicators like the one I linked to above; I don't find them difficult to adjust and I like thei...

Nymphin' The Black, 5/13/2020

After getting word that my afternoon was going to open up, I decided to try my luck on the Black. No dry flies today--just nymphs. The paved/sportsmen lots were crowded, but I eventually found a place empty of anglers. It turned out to be an enjoyable afternoon as I didn't see one other fisherman al...

There are people in numbers everywhere this season, but to be honest, I figured they would have the bridge pools picked clean by now.
Agreed. I've seen *groups* of people in places I usually never see anyone.
