Re: Washing Out Wader Stink
Getting complaints. BTW, these were my first chest waders. In the beginning, I didn't know anything about wader maintenance; I didn't even turn them inside out to air after using them. After years of use, now it's time to try to get the stank out. Any recommendations on products to safely wash brea...

Re: First time fly fishing
I believe every fly you have will catch fish right now.....Worry about bugs and their lifecycle and spooking fish. They eat easier when they are comfortable. Most of all.have fun and be prepared to tie lots of knots and keep yer tippet fresh! Ditto on what lightenup says here. also, don't forget a ...

Re: Need a Crash Course on Spring Flies
All good suggestions from the peanut gallery. I'd add a tip that they've all somehow overlooked: be sure to spit on your fly before you begin fishing--works like a charm.

Re: Van Campens restoration project.
Lots of interesting information and thoughts on this thread! It's a beautiful stream with wonderful trout from all three species. While we all know and appreciate that, other people who are not into fishing see it as the perfect place for a bbq party with friends and family. While I obviously dont ...

Re: Van Campens restoration project.
lol if it's a national recreation area expect out-of-towners, it's actually a tourist attraction and you're complaining there's too many people. It's like deciding to go bird watching at the Leaning Tower of Pisa and being upset that there's too many people. Do you think it's Ok to piss a...

That thing is ridiculous. But I am surprised it weighs only 32 lbs.

I heard spring will be early and warmer than normal this year. Time will tell. But yesterday (53 F and sunny) felt like heaven.

My data is a bit old as well, but if I were you I would go elsewhere. I think you know better spots.joe_panella wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 8:43 amWhat is the wild trout situation like in Hacklebarny on the Black. My time is valuable at this state of my life, i try not waste it in put and take fisheries.

Re: Montana or Northern New Mexico?
Great thoughts here from the GST Brotherhood to the BT--much appreciated. Reading this thread, noticing the grey along my temples, and receiving news this week that one of my immediate family members is falling ill has driven home how short life is, but in particular, how short a healthy life can be...

Montana or Northern New Mexico?
I am about 8 years away from moving to one of these states and I want fly fishing to be high on the list of activities I can enjoy. While I've fished a bit in both states, I probably don't have the experience many other guys on this forum have. I've emailed some guides in both states to hear their a...

Re: Recommend a 3wt for Bluegill
I would argue that if you want to spend several hundred to a thousand on a rod to catch panfish, then you are more interested in having 'nice gear' than purely catching fish. Certainly that is your prerogative to have nice gear, but the sunnies won't mind if you use an $89 3 weight from Cabelas. Ph...

Re: Recommend a 3wt for Bluegill
Per the title... Started lake fishing last year, and I’m all set as far as bass setups. I started catching a lot of bluegill along the banks, and I really enjoyed it. But the lightest rod/line I have is a 5wt - I’d like to move to a 3wt dedicated to bluegill, these fish are not big by any stretch. ...

Exploring an Afternoon on the Black River 2/5/2021
I had a half-day scheduled at work on Friday so I decided to hit the Black for some winter nymphing in the afternoon hours.
While I managed to hook only one fat rainbow on a rainbow warrior #16 (didn't land it--got caught in submerged debris & broke off), I did manage some cool photos of the area.

Re: Ice fishing this weekend!
Perhaps the ice fishing season got a late start in mid-late January, I predict you will be able to ice fish till at least early/middle march based on the 15 day forecast. My brother has gotten out on Budd Lake the last two weekends and the ice is thickening up nicely with very cold weather to last ...

Re: It's 18 degrees outside...time to start thinking about hatches
Nice, broski. Did you hook into the trout at the end of the drift or on the swing? Big hit came just as I was lifting to recast. Made me jump. Short, slow strips across the end of a pool brought another up. Its the color scheme!!! Oldy but a goodie...under used and almost forgotten...nice work!!! [...
