Re: Winter trout stocking:
You're talking 160 and 190 trout out of 600,000 stocked this year. Yes they will probably die next summer if not caught but the trout hatchery program has to serve the ENTIRE state not just the northern part. I'm sure they sell enough licenses and trout stamps in Atlantic and Cape May counties to co...

Re: Fly fishing etiquette rant
Every time I fish a certain stretch of the Willowemoc I have the same problem. I usually get there early as there is a consistent take of BWO in the morning and work my way up a run. Invariably somebody will show up and stand in the run which is knee deep and on the edge of the river and cast to the...

If flows remain high, think flashy especially with dumb stockies, rainbow warrior, Frenchie or anything with a hot spot in addition to those already mentioned.

Re: Columbia Dam removal
Rusty could answer the question of sediment removal far better than I can but from hearing him talk multiple times I can say this. On another possible future removal, where the dam is of significant height(33feet) and the impoundment is all silted in to the depth of a few feet, he talked about remov...

Re: Columbia Dam removal
There are dams where the water is deep and the released water is from the depths and is cold. A good example is the upper West Branch of the Delaware below the Cannonsville dam above Deposit NY where the water stays in the 50's. The dams that are removed by TU and other conservation groups are not l...

Re: Long Beach Island With The Flyrod?
I've seen people fly fishing off the south jetty in Barnegat Light. You need a south or better southwesterly wind for optimal conditions and don't even think about it with a wind coming out of the north as you will be eating your fly. Be careful on the rocks. Korkers would be a plus. Outgoing tide i...

Re: Nymphing - going to the dark side
Do you use dry fly line with a split shot on the leader, sink tip or dry with a sinking extension? Place your split shot 6-12 inches above your point (first) fly. If tandem rig which I recommend, place your second non-weighted fly about 18 inches behind this. I use wf floating line. The less line y...

Re: Nymphing - going to the dark side
High visibility vs. realistic nymphs is something that most fly fishermen have wondered about. I fish both and both work. I tie my own which is a good thing when you nymph as you want to be right on or just off the bottom and for me to lose over 1/2 dozen nymphs in a trip is fairly common. I often t...

Re: Musky "A Frame restoration" project starting soon
Rusty states that the stone dam was built by former club members. I realize that you said you were talking about a different river but Native Americans to the best of my knowledge including the Lenni Lenape and the Iroquois Federation did not build dams. Do you know of any dams they built. I'm a bit...

Re: Late spring - summer fly fishing
For those that have to take a drive to get to the South Branch or Musky, Shannon's posts the water temp from the morning on the South Branch on their web site which will give you an idea. They don't do it every day but it has helped me several times to decide whether to take the drive of over an hou...
