Here is the bigger wild brookie from the KLG probably 10 years ago.

Re: Brookies

nice sized brookie too? Looks like it's 9 inches from the way you took the photo but probably the perspective is off probably 7 or 8..it was a little larger than I usually see on the SBR, but not much, very colorful, probably a male. about 10 years ago I got a 12-13 inch wild brookie in the Gorge. ...

20210614_190554.jpg Another little native brookie eating dry flies. This one was picky and only would eat a size 18 sulphur emerger... L-up, is this a picture of a brookie on a line being reeled in, or is it just rising vertically like it's on roids? I pulled him up a little to get the picture as I...

I wish I had enough time to fish to need sun gloves. I bet if you called a surf tackle shop they could help. I see more of a need for them casting from the beach. Just an idea, not sure...

Re: Tippet

These kinds of threads to me are like which is better, Ford, Mopar or GM? :D I've always found RIO to tie knots easily and without failing, so I stick with that brand. To each his or her own. I like Maxima in saltwater for what it's worth. Not looking for a subtle turnover of a light fly, I'm tryin...

Tippet

I usually use whatever I have. I like a nice rod a nice click and pawl reel, but never cared about my leader type or tippet. I tried a few hand tied leaders my buddy made. They were great but Im fine with them outta the bag. I have always used RIO tippet because it's what Shannons carries and I live...

Re: Brookies

There is no right or wrong answer. I tend to think of trout water versus non trout or seasonal trout so for me, the upper is above the Solitude Dam in the KLG and everything downstream is the lower river. But when I said "upper", I really was talking about from the Budd Lake outflow down to old rou...

Re: Brookies

One would think at the outflow of budd lake where it's super tiny, but what do I know?? Sorry, the separation between upper and lower SBR is where? I guess that could be up for debate?? Some would consider the high bridge falls to be the end of the upper....I personally think clinton falls is the s...

Re: Brookies

I've anecdotally been hearing from many anglers catching both native brookies and wild browns in the upper SBR and Musky. I'm thinking the stocking changes are somewhat that reason if we are seeing an increase. Where does the upper SBR officially start? One would think at the outflow of budd lake w...

Re: Brookies

Healthy looking fish! They were gorging on Sulphur emergers, and any other bug that came into view, aggressive and unwary! This was on the SBR, where? I'm not telling. Re: Handling Trout for C&R

Modern rubber mesh nets make C&R so easy these days. That and a good pair of hemostats. As others said, there really is little need to ever handle the trout or other fish if your plan is to release it unharmed. As for when you do handle a fish, it takes but a mere second to get your hands wet befor...

Check the gauge now. Temps in low 50s and river at 600 cfs with more rain on the way. When it rains, it pours as the old adage goes.
Feast or famine it seems. Wonder what the trout think?
Anyone going fishing?

Looks like the river got a little bump but is still warm and low. This weekend looks great though with some signficant rain over 3 days and highs in the 50s and 60s. Probably one of the chilliest memorial day weekends that I can remember.
That's some excellent news!!!!

Re: It's warm.

And just like that. Temps at the SBR were high today. Flows are super low even with the rain today, dropped the temps quick though...Hopefully we get the soaking we need on Friday and it continues rain. Conditions now just plain suck.
