Where's the rain??

This seems like one of those years where the only relief from the drought will be a hurricane or tropical depression running up the eastern seaboard and dumping flooding rains like Irene some 14 years ago. Many of our trout streams and rivers are seeing historic low flows as we enter the spawning season soon......

Had a good chance, then even they turned away. Big high stacked up.

Historic low flows right now for nearly 100% of all NJ streams and rivers. Musky down to 54 cfs. I think the lower 70s are exceptionally low for most summers. We have up to an inch headed our way later tonight into tomorrow. Let's hope they are wrong and we get 2" instead. We need to start somewhere.

I'm afraid It has been so dry the ground will just soak it up, very little will find it way into streams & rivers.

Good news, but only up to an inch of rain for inland areas where the trout are. And we only got 1/2" the other day here in the SBR headwaters which is very near the Musconetcong headwaters. We need a few 3" events in a relatively short amount of time or ludicrous snow which we no longer see.

Fingers crossed that we get at least 2.5" of rain tomorrow into early Friday. It's a start, but we so desperately need more and a lot more!

How did the SBR watershed fare? I'm skeptical of the USGS gauges with the govt shutdown.

We got 1.68" of rain was all in the headwaters. Flows jumped to nearly 190 cfs but back down and falling fast. The SBR was a mere trickle up here for the last few months. I am working on a permit for a farm in Middle Valley and you didn't even notice the water flowing downstream. The river looked more like a long, narrow pond. Worst in our lifetimes. Two poor years for trout spawning back to back, but the rains will fall again eventually.
