Lower Echo Lake

Post by The hawk » Fri Sep 21, 2018 7:01 pm

For those of you who know Echo Lake in union county, I was walking there during lunch. That little area under the dam where the water is no more than 18 inches deep, I saw several rainbows swimming around. That area gets sun and the water probably gets into the upper 70's for a few months. Nice to see they survived the hot summer water temps. i don't think the state stocks there, they were put in there by the Newark Bait and Fly club in April for their Kids Tourney. I didn't think any trout could take those temps in shallow water and survive.

Very interesting! So right below the large dam? The state still stocks the lower lake, so they could have been bucket stocked down below it by anglers. Not sure they could swim up stream from the Rahway river which that feeds.
