Garden State Trout

What are your favorite flies and techniques for freshly stocked fall trout? Buggers, eggs, mops, streamers? Size? Colors? Retrieve?

The interesting thing about this fall as compared to the last several years is that the flows are considerably higher . Not that your patterns will change I think all the ones named are fine , but the fact that they have more room to move about should make the next 5 months very interesting.

Infamous pink worms (aka bacon and eggs) and yellow egg patterns. Stocked rainbows are stupid and easy to catch. They will also chase most any wooly bugger.

If flows remain high, think flashy especially with dumb stockies, rainbow warrior, Frenchie or anything with a hot spot in addition to those already mentioned.

I used to kill 'em with a small muddler on a sink-tip line. Toss it out, let sink and swing, swim it back.

I fished a #10 black Wooly Bugger (no bead) with a #14 beadhead Psyhco-Prince dropper on the North Branch of the Raritan River for about an hour and a half this afternoon with no results. The shallower stretch I was fishing was being pounded pretty hard by careless wading. At least that's my excuse!
