Day On The River With My Son

Post by njcatchrelease » Fri Dec 28, 2018 10:22 am

Since my son was home from college for the holidays and we had a free day we hit the river for a few hours. Air temp was 36 and the water temp was 38. The river was running high but clear.

We managed to land 8 nice rainbows and 1 brown in a few hours of fishing. Even though the water temp was cold these fish seemed very active and were slamming our lures and once hooked put up a great fight! All fish released as always.

Here are a few photos...

Great shots. The best ones are with family imo.

I am looking forward to taking my sons this spring. They are 8 and 10.

When I started taking my son at a young age (now 21), I made sure to make the day not just about fishing but about exploring the river area. Basically give them time to be kids!

If you dont see immediate interest with your kids in fishing, give it time. My dad took me out a few times as a kid. Took me years later to actually get into fishing. Just randomly one day wanted to, I think having my own car helped with that.

I think ways that my dad could have done better showing me the sport; not give your kid the spare leaky waders  Dont do the same lol!
