Finally Nice Weather and Nice Trout

Post by njcatchrelease » Mon Apr 23, 2018 9:28 am

Went to try the Delaware river for shad on Sunday but didn't even get a strike. I decided to run over the Big Flat Brook and try for some trout. The weather was great and surprisingly the river wasn't too crowded. Ended up landing 6 rainbows with one real nice one that is my personal best for NJ. All 6 were released to fight another day.

My guess is if you uploaded them to that forum, and are just pasting the link here people who are not members of that forum can't see them. Some forums require you to be a member to see some content.

On your Instagram page (on the web, not mobile) try right clicking the picture, select copy link, and paste that between the IMG blocks. I'm on my phone now otherwise I would try that for you.

I tried your suggestion and it doesn't work. I guess I will either just have to put in the Instagram links or find another photo hosting site to use.

That is actually a nice looking fish. Rusty or anyone else that may know, hare the rainbows holding over in the new catch and reelease area on the flatbrook.

One of the fisheries biologists is using PIT tags to monitor stocked rainbow survival and distribution in the Flat Brook. Next time I see him, I will inquire where that study is, but I do know that most stocked bows swim downstream with very few swimming upstream and even fewer staying where they were initially stocked.

That said, the FB is unique in that only the deeper pools hold fish. Predators are the likely cause of that, but I just never catch them in riffles or shallower runs in that river.
