25 people attended, good meeting. Always recognize many faces when I attend an RVTA meeting. Renewed my membership for 2019, $25.00.

Preliminary trout stocking goes like this (and do not quote me on this)
The club will be stocking 250 Tiger Trout @12" , 300 Brown Trout @12"
and almost 30 very large Brown, Golden and Rainbow "Trophy Trout"
Trout will be purchased with monies raised by the club and all fish will be stocked on April 7th of this year into Round Valley.
Word is still out on weather or not the State will be stocking Land locked Salmon into Round Valley.
Nice RVTA hooded sweat shirts were available for purchase at the meeting.

How are the land locked doing in the other NJ water ways? Are they able to breed in lakes, or do they need streams to run up?

The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife has officially certified, and is pleased to announce, the catch of a new state record freshwater fish. The fish, a Landlocked Salmon, replaced a record which stood for 67 years and is the first record salmon since stocking began in 2006.

Runelvy Rodriguez of Northvale, New Jersey, reeled in the record Landlocked Salmon on June 2, 2018. The fish weighed in at 8 pounds, 5 ounces, eclipsing the previous state record set in 1951: John Mount's 8 pound fish from Lake Aeroflex when it was known as New Wawayanda Lake.

The fish measured 25.75" in length and had a girth of 15". Runelvy was fishing off a boat on Lake Aeroflex when she reeled in the fish. The fish hit while Runelvy was trolling. She was using an Okuma rod and reel. A spoon served as the lure.

Whats the point of putting in the tiger trout they should just stock more browns or rainbows

Land locks are doing well but too many googans are putting them in the smoker!

True, but that fishery is meant as a put and take fishery.

The whole put and take fishery is just sad honestly. We all saw how the fish can grow but why have to kill everything hence my googan reference

This is my new favorite fish on the fly rod, but I wouldn't waste my time with NJ stockers. I fell in love with the Ounaniche (landlocked Atlantic salmon) last July on my Labrador trip. That fish would have been average in length up there, but the NJ fish is much fatter having fed in a lake and not having to fight river current all day and night. An incredible fish that will jump so often that you can barely keep them on the line. To me, even a hotter fish than a east coast steelhead.

I want to catch one either way.

Can we trust introducing a new species will have the intended outcome down the road? It often seems like we regret these things years later.

But hatchery fish are so yummy to eat !!!

I respectfully disagree. The landlocks likely won't successfully reproduce without a stream to run up. The are a stocking dependent fishery. With proper slot limit sizes you can have a nice sport fishery with regular harvest. Besides buying a license entitles you to lawfully kill fish (not kill everything but lawful harvest).

No, but NJ has stocked landlocked salmon off and on for many decades. As fish species go, this non-native isn't the threat to natives like brown trout would be. Or snakeheads. Or flatheads, etc.
