Claremont Bows

Post by eight_n_sand » Sat May 18, 2019 5:07 pm

ImageHit the Claremont stretch today and caught 2 nice rainbows. Both nice size and in great shape. First one slipped away before I could grab a pic but looked much like this guy. Are these club stocked fish? Not very familiar with the area.

I'm by no means an expert on whether a rainbow is a club or a state fish but my guess would be that that rainbow was stocked by the Anglers Anonymous club that is directly upstream of the Claremont. The upstream border of the Claremont is where the club ends.

Since the state no longer stocks above the route 24 bridge in downtown Long Valley, they are likely Kamloops from Anglers Anonymous as the other poster mentioned. They still stock their roughly 1 mile of leased water.

Does that mean that the river above Long Valley is open everyday, all year?

Yes Roy. I live there and have been waiting a bit before I know the browns will grow larger once the creel fillers realize that section of the SBR is no longer stocked. This is year 2 of no stocking and I'm just this spring seeing few anglers parked along the local roads now that the stocking signs are all down. Last year they still showed up on the opening day and each Tuesday of stocking season. This year that has nearly ended as they realize it is not stocked any longer. This is 9 1/2 miles of WTS basically. See page 22 in green:

I fished the upper section, right below Budd Lake in the reserve. I did not see many good holes that brookies could hide in. Just when it starts to open it, there are Posted Signs. I turned back.

Next, I drove down to where the "Wild Trout" section and caught fish right by that bridge. As I ventured down, however, I again ran into Posted Signs and turned back.

I hope all those land owners enjoy the fish in these protected areas.

Nearly all 9 1/2 miles are not posted. There are some properties posted, but the better fishing is NOT up near Budd Lake but further downstream where the river picks up flow and drops temperatures. All along River Road and Bartley Road are pull offs where you can park and fish for miles.
