Check out those caddis getting down. Anyone doing good on the sulphur hatch? Saw some coming off but no risers.

I've been fishing a yellow body stimulator and doing well with it.

I fished a couple days on the Flatbrook last week and only saw a few sulphurs.

Bug porn, I love it!

With flows dropping on local rivers, expect to see more rising trout in coming days to sulphurs. I haven't fished much locally this spring since around the opening day myself. I will get out later this evening though.

I fished Friday night and saw a few sulphurs with sporadic rises. They were taking the sulphur soft hackle (and the GRHE wet as well) on the swing. Saturday night I fished the Rockaway, no sulphurs but there were big slate drakes hatching. Did well on the GRHE wet until the hatch really kicked in, then I got 3 risers on a royal wulff. Yesterday morning I fished Pt Mtn, got 6 on the GRHE wet and 2 on the sulphur soft hackle. Great fishing with wet flies, dries, and bamboo. My favorite time of the year.

Those are the same wild brown, and I was asking myself that same question. We do have some from a couple nearby tribs that contribute a few wild browns to Point Mountain.

How are the summer temps at pt mountain? If i remember isn't there some limestone in there. Have not been down that way in years.

I consider Point Mountain to be the start of the Musky's year round trout water, so good regarding temps. Some years we lose the stocked trout above Pt. Mtn., but not in the TCA or downstream of there all the way to the big D. A cold trib enters above Penwell on river right and another closer to the dam on river left which both help. And it does have limestone groundwater interface as we proved on our restoration of 1/3 a mile in the middle a few summers ago now. We dug up a bunch of decaying limestone where you could clearly see the water marks as the bedrock was eroding over time from the water that flows like it is going through a sponge and not bedrock.

What does the musky lack in regards to in stream spawning. How can it be increased and have you documented any in the areas you restored.

One of life's great mysteries is why some rivers see mainstem spawning and others see nearly all spawning in the tributaries. The Musky continues to be listed as TM waters and not TP although there is limited reproduction in areas in the Musky. The habitat is there, so I'm not sure why browns and brookies don't spawn more in that river.

Unfortunately the wild browns didn't come out of Pt Mountain, I only managed holderover stockies there. The browns were from a stream I fished Friday evening. They came on sulphur soft hackles.
