Dark trout?

Post by Reeltight » Wed Apr 25, 2018 8:04 pm

Caught this guy along with a about a dozen other ones this morning on a small stream. He is much darker than all the trout that I’ve caught since opening day. Is he a fish that was stocked in the fall? Or just one that happens to be darker than the others that have been getting stocked lately?

Looks like a juvenile rainbow. I've seen a few like that before. Nice catch.

That is definitely a recently stocked trout... look at the mangled fins...

He just hid in a car corner his whole life.....

But actually trout that live in darker environments will get darker coloration over time.

I've seen Pequest bows much darker than even that. It's just normal color variation.

Thanks for the info. I just thought it was strange that this one fish was so much darker than all the others.
