Van Campens 11/3

Post by NJAngler » Mon Nov 04, 2019 7:39 am

Hit the upper 1/3 from Watergate on up about 3 miles.
Did ok but not great. About 3:1 ratio of brook to bow. Bows up to 11"; Brook up to 8". I guess the good news is I saw a lot of yoy fish....especially bows.

Looks like a great day to me. Anytime you can get out on the river and catch some wild trout is a great day in my book.

Pretty fish, thanks for sharing.

Sounds like a great day. Looks like flows were perfect, especially for a spinner. Those 10-12 inch wild bows will certainly put a bend on a rod and are acrobatic usually.
To be clear, you caught 3 times as many brooks as bows? VCB is always a treat as you never know what species you will catch. You can guess that lower has more browns and above has more bows and brookies, but the middle section can have any one of the three. Are there still brookies around the Glenn or is that almost all browns now?

I didn't fish the glen. Part of the area is still closed of from the storms of March 2018. People park by the closed gate and walk in which they shouldn't be doing. The steep side of the ravine has been compromised by fallen hemlocks and erosion. It really is quite dangerous walking back there. The upper falls and glen are open.

I mostly stay between interstate 80 + 78 for my wild trout fishing, haven't gone much further, but one day ill try van campens, flatbrook, dunfield, etc, when I get the feeling to travel somewhere new. So I appreciate the reports.
