Garden State Trout

Happy Pi Day to all you math dudes out there.

I hit a little gem of a stream today outfitted with a 7 ft St. Croix and some dry flies. The morning produced no fish but later in the afternoon offered some good top-water action. Here's a brown (wild?) I caught on an Adams (#16). I also saw plenty of skunk cabbage--Spring's coming.

It's small enough to be one and has some decent parrs/color plus good-looking fins. It also swam for shelter under some river detritus once hooked; I wonder what that says about its survival instincts vs those of a stocked fish?

Survival instincts over stocked fish? More likely just survival instinct regardless of stock or wild. Those that have it, lives to survive another day, those that don’t becomes a meal. That’s how natural selection works.

their fitness levels are higher. That is why for sticking fingerlings or advanced fingerlings. They have higher fitness levels.

I was out yesterday afternoon. Landed a Brown on a black soft hackle, switched to a small elk-hair caddis when I saw a few hatching, hooked another Brown but lost it. Also saw small LBS about a size 18 or 20.
