Lightenup, I think you have it the other way around: NJAngler carries that Brookie wherever he goes; he likely just found the measuring stick there in the stream.

But Mark, that is one of the nicest fish I've ever seen you post in all my years on the different versions of this board. Congrats.

That's a nice plump looking brookie! He looks well fed-possibly from a fertile spring fed creek and not a mountain freestone?

Nice one. I've caught a few that surprised me over the years based on the size of the creek.

Maybe, just maybe if you pinch the tail you can call that 10.5 inches, but it is a very nice Brookie regardless.

The streambed is not flat so its not a level measuring "board". lol

Actually it was a very popular NW NJ stream. Got another one about 10". Overall numbers for this creek were still low IMO. Some dandy pools just empty. I did see a merganser couple so they may have been working the stream sections before I arrived. A lot of YOY fish so it must have been a good spawn with adequate flows and little harsh winter weather to deal with.

i wonder why they keep the NJ Skillful angler program measurement at 19inches, i know it set to that from when they used to stock them. Do any clubs still stock them? If not then I imagine they could change the measurement to something like 9 inches as a minimum.

that's a good point. I was told that many fish arent on the program for reasons like that; for white perch for example- the opposite reason, they're seen as a nuisance by f&w and dont want anglers glorifying them and spreading them around.
