Changes to NJ trout season about to be announced

And they are..........starting 4/1 (Wednesday), trout stocked waters will be open on a C&R basis only until 4/11 which is to be the normal opener. Also, the Division will suspend in-season stocking day closures. Rivers will still be stocked, but randomly and not, for example, only on Fridays for the Musky (Tuesday for the SBR, etc.). This will help keep truck chasers and the 5pm crew on stocking days from crowding the rivers and parking lots.

Shannon's remains open on a limited basis, just call to set up a purchase if you need anything. I'm headed there shortly for some much needed supplies myself in a few. But the shop is practicing proper CDC and NJ recommendations and is not open as it normally would be. Now more than ever is the time to support your local fly shops! They can ship or you can pickup curbside.

No, it is red. What you have been seeing is an Iphone emoji that looks like a virus and that is green. Everyone is using that emoji suddenly.

Are they going to announce it?
It's not going to do much good if the general apathetic public, still thinks there's going to be a traditional opener on 4/11.

Don’t see anything on the F+W website yet.

That's why I asked.
Their Facebook page is still talking about bats.

BTW: It's occurred to me that they may be waiting to announce until after the 1st, so they don't inadvertently create a new "opening day".

Hopefully they make it official soon, I want to try the Passaic near me (if they stocked it already).

I plan to go out tomorrow and don’t want to explain to the law why I’m fishing where I am. April Fools Day also crossed my mind.

The best way to get trout in the passaic is to cast a large copper spinnerbait, the next step is to take the pike you catch and have them barf up the trout :o

Jk lol, Ive never fished for stocked trout in the passaic river, but i hear they really do stack up around the bridges.

I have only fished the Passaic in its headwaters, never the stocked sections either. I live 2 mins from a few stocking points so why not give it a shot. I dont think the Pike are up this way, unfortunately....

The Governor announced this change yesterday for those that don't believe it or are awaiting formal word. I was posting the Shannon's private waters along Vernoy Road yesterday when the CO pulled up to make sure I knew about the changes and that he was driving the length of the river to let anglers know (this was yesterday) that today is open waters on all stocked streams, C&R only until 4/11, and then regular spring season after that.

to add a serious point tho; wading passaic can get really dangerous with the mud bottom. But i know of two nice stretches to wade fish (which are hella short but it works)
