These are "pop up parties" spread by sites on the internet, and they will overrun a given location until booted out. We've seen this many times before and all over NJ rivers including the Musky just a few years ago now.

I have been reading more about this current situation of late. Don't care who it is, but I prefer the small town I live in to not have "pop-up" parties of large numbers of people just showing up and partying and drinking. My question is - besides littering (which is shameful), are they breaking any other laws? Just curious how much of a leg there is to stand on that local officials can use to just shut it down. There are plenty of things I prefer to not happen, but it does because nothing can be done if they're doing it within the law.

I remember when I first noticed it in Three Bridges. It was like "okay, just a couple people enjoying the outdoors, good for them." Then it rapidly became equivalent to Panama City on Spring Break.

We used to tube in groups and enjoy plenty of "sodas" on the river when I was younger. We always cleaned up after ourselves and were very respectful. Nobody every complained, but I now wonder if we were hated by everybody who noticed us lol.

I completely understand the desire to go outside and a have a party on the river, particularly after several months of shutdown after several months of winter. But why do people leave all the trash?? Are they afraid to bring it out with them as they don't want to be caught with 'evidence'? If the littering is left unchecked, it will continue, especially after someone was nice enough to clean it up for them. I am not a policing expert, so I am not sure if it is better to write citations for littering or something related to the public consumption of alcohol. Also, if one cop goes down there, he can find himself quickly outnumbered in a potentially ugly situation. There must be a playbook for this for the police, but I don't know what it is.

Thats probably a good play that avoids a direct confrontation but is an effective deterrent.

They are breaking lots of laws from drinking (signs clearly state town owned lands and no alcohol), littering, and obviously more than 50 people congregated in a small space, even if it is outdoors. Add public urination and defecation to that list. I'm sure there are several more.

Love that idea! You clearly see beer bongs being used and bottles of Johnny Walker red and blue even!

PA had this problem , local authorities put fees on the parks for out of towners . On the broadhead you can party , follow all the laws and before you step out of the car $10 a person . Free if you have a PA fishing license.

Thanks Rusty. Should be pretty easy to have a leg to stand on if they choose to find a way to squash this.

That party spot is over. The only question is where the next one pops up. Unfortunately, the internet makes these things possible and tough to predict and thwart by local officials.

I may/may not be the guy that carried a half barrel of beer at least a half mile in the woods to party on senior ditch day.

Not condoning the garbage but a gas grill makes that party that much sweeter!!!.....like I said before , garbage is the only problem I see....if the folks involved were capable of leaving it the way they found it, than I would be willing to bet that almost ALL ppl watching would turn a blind eye....

Kind of shame that everyone else gets punished, but happy to hear the party is over.

My guess is this will be temporary. But I did watch the state permanently close the old, dead end road at Penwell along the Musky over a similar situation a few years ago. But anglers still find enough room to park; it just thwarted the big parties is all. It is a shame the actions of a few affect the many....

I saw this in Worthington State Park years ago. In the glen by Van Campen's. Dirty diapers, styrofoam all sorts of shit. I complained to TU and the park service. the park service was very helpful. TU not at all. I tried to organize a clean-up. Park rangers said they would help..TU said no thanks, we don't work with the park service well. I said that they were already willing to help...again..no thanks, It'll just get f@#ked up again this is why I no longer belong to TU.

Looks like fun! I just came back from camping, canoeing, and fishing the D in Barryville. May have been some partying as well. :P Just don't leave a mess but most often a mess is what's left, that's what pisses me off.
