Such a beautiful fish! Headed down to VA next week to restore some of their habitat.....hoping to put my VA non-resident fishing license into action a few evenings.

awesome, what does some of the restoration work involve? some dam/pond removals built up in the mountains?Rusty Spinner wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 2:25 pmSuch a beautiful fish! Re: brookies
This time it's an 8th generation former farm that had dairy cows on it until about 30 years ago. They trampled the banks after the farmer removed all vegetation save for grass for pasture for the cows. There is not a lot of native rock in these banks, so they eroded very badly with the channel incising which is a typical problem we see here in the East. We are re-sloping banks which allows the river better access to its floodplain, building in-stream habitat for trout as well as wood turtles as this is one of the few strongholds for that species in VA. And after the construction work is done, we oversee native plantings for about a mile of Piney Run. We will be working on Piney upstream next year as well as two tributaries to that stream, also upstream of our current site on Blue Ridge Environmental land which is now part of VA's State Parks.coaltrout wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 2:55 pmawesome, what does some of the restoration work involve? some dam/pond removals built up in the mountains?Rusty Spinner wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 2:25 pmSuch a beautiful fish!
