I caught a few myself this weekend, no pics sorry. However your pics are nice, thank you.

They were gorging on Sulphur emergers, and any other bug that came into view, aggressive and unwary! This was on the SBR, where? I'm not telling.

I've anecdotally been hearing from many anglers catching both native brookies and wild browns in the upper SBR and Musky. I'm thinking the stocking changes are somewhat that reason if we are seeing an increase.

Where does the upper SBR officially start?

One would think at the outflow of budd lake where it's super tiny, but what do I know??

I guess that could be up for debate?? Some would consider the high bridge falls to be the end of the upper....I personally think clinton falls is the separator, where you get warm water intrusions from spruce run...just an opinion, maybe theres an official answer??

Maybe up from Long Valley, where it is considered a WTS?

for me it was always above the slow moving water in downtown Califon as there is more natural spawning above there in tribs and even in main river. Below there, i assume spawning is mostly in tribs.

The upper is wherever you are standing and looking upstream, turn around and its the lower.

There is no right or wrong answer. I tend to think of trout water versus non trout or seasonal trout so for me, the upper is above the Solitude Dam in the KLG and everything downstream is the lower river. But when I said "upper", I really was talking about from the Budd Lake outflow down to old route 24 in Long Valley which is the WTS section and unstocked. That 9+ miles is going to just get better and better as more of the catch and keep crowds realize the upper 9 miles aren't stocked any longer.

Yup, and that is very normal from the first tributary about 80 yards below Budd Lake outflow down to the Solitude Dam. Some natives and wild browns are even below that dam, but they spawn and bail out in warm water to local tribs. Shannon's private water regularly sees native brookies and it is stocked. Same with the clubs upstream. Same for the Musky and many other rivers.

Except when I got there and catch stocked rainbows

Hmmm, I know there are wild browns in the tribs below Solitude (Beaver Brook, Capoolong etc), but dont know of any wild brookie tribs below the dam.

I thought only rainbows fed next to rainbows, and brookies only feed next to brookies, and browns only feed next to suckers? 8-) :? :D ;) ;) ;) ;)
