Ice fishing for Trout

Any one here have good experience catching trout through the ice?

Any recommendations on baits and what depths work best for catching trout through the ice?

For one, you need to target lakes that got a winter stocking of trout that freeze over.

You will notice that the stocking numbers are very small, so I wouldn't spend a whole trip only trying to target trout.
Any jigs or small shiners will work, but the key is to fish higher up in the water column-perhaps only a foot or two beneath the ice. This is the opposite of ice fishing for other species which generally tend to be on or near the bottom. Rusty or others might have more up to date advice!

Fishing a private lake tomorrow that has trout in it so not worried about state fish.

Just looking for general knowledge

try to auger multiple holes 10-15 feet part from each other. jigs & live bait will be your best bet. most of the time they will be suspended slightly above the thermocline of that body of water

Friday overall the ice fishing bite was DEAD!!!

So we didnt get any trout through the ice. Tried a few different baits and nothing
