If maintained and not kept out in the elements except when fishing I wouldn't worry about it. Plenty of 100+ year old greenheart and cane rods with a lot of mileage being regularly fished out there. My brother has a 30+ year old graphite rod he uses regularly. Tons of old Fenwick and Phillipson fiberglass rods are out there from the 1940s which are used regularly.

Troutman, if you're worrying about wearing out your fly rod, you better get yourself an agent and a corporate sponsor

always kept indoors when not in use. I dont ever leave my equipment outside in the elements. These new higher end quality rods are now carbon. The last rod I owned that wasnt graphite . was the old garcia colon series rods. & thats over 40 years ago  . But I dont remember what materials there where made of. But after time it would warp slightly from heavy use

It certainly does, like the feel of a good women. There's fishing with bamboo and there's fishing with everything else.

Hi, My bamboo is 55 years old and I still use. My wife bought it for me for my Xmas present as husband and wife. She bought it at Ramsey Outdoor store for $91.00 in 1967. It is a Orvis Madison 71/2 foot. I fish it on the Beaverkill when I am up there in May or June. This is the only rod I keep in the house in my closet, the rest of my rods are in the garage out of the weather. All the rest of my rods are graphite. There is just something about bamboo that graphite cannot compare too. I don’t know what it is but I just love my Madison bamboo. Bill the mailman
