By 3 or 4, I assume you mean as an average for about 20 different rivers? Solitude Club is still very much alive and well having done a major river enhancement a couple of years ago done by one of my competitors. But that is one of five clubs on the upper SBR that come to mind initially. More on the Musky, many on the Pequest, some on the Flatbrook, etc. Then there are clubs on tributaries to those bigger rivers as well.

Yes there is. Posting hero shots of them on social media trumpeting the fish's size and the angler's skills for all his friends to "like".

Private clubs remain very popular here in NJ and elsewhere. They run the gamut of owned lands and waters to leased land and waters. Most rely heavily on stocked trout and often on feeding those stocked trout. Many here in NJ have done river enhancements and/or restoration of their waters to improve fishing including improving macroinvertebrate numbers. For the wild trout angler, they seldom off much of interest, but to many others, a chance to catch nice fish without crowds is the appeal.

I was part of a club for 1 year on the South Branch and got some really nice fish there I enjoyed. It was great at the time because I worked close by

The goal is to join a different club on the south branch this year that our own Brian will be restoring

Just out of curiosity, what is the cost, what stretch of river and how much, and are there wild fish.

Do you know what the length of the stretch and if they have openings. Since you fish it do you catch a mix of wild fish?

I'm surprised no one has started a 'pay to fish' set up, similar to the pheasant/chukar/quail hunting preserves. Used to be a few for private lakes/ponds around the state, and there was Eldridge Preserve in the Catskills, but it's gone upscale.

There is one in central NJ and a few pay to fish places in PA

I have not personally fished it yet but have caught wild fish in the general area on the river and it being on the upper river it will hold wild fish. The river will be restored I believe this year by our own Rusty Spinner

I will say this not sure on the cost but when I was a member for 1 year at the Old shannons private water on the south branch in 2019 it was 1,700 for a year. only did that because i worked in the area

They are a good place to get youngsters started. I was more curious about similar endeavors on streams/rivers. Closest thing I know about is for the West Branch of the Ausable if you use a guide from the Hungry Trout for their 'Dream Mile'.
