Help with trip to the Catskills

Heading up the Catskills are the last week of August to do some backpacking and remote camping at a few of the lean to shelters in the area.

I am not at all familiar with trout fishing in the area and would appreciate any help with areas, streams, etc in the area?

There seems to be a number of shelters located near tributaries of the Esopus and a few either on or near both the Batavia Kill and Dry Brook.

Do the tributaries of these well known Catskill Rivers all hold trout?

Any help would be appreciated.

Bring your thermometer....the water is hot every where except the tailwaters...

Esopus should be plenty cold as it's kind of a tailwater ....and the tribs stay pretty cold to . That said if you plan on practicing catch and release , please check the temps .

Definitely plan to check the temps as we almost always release our catch. I will take a look at the Esopus to see what is in the area.

We were up in the Phoenicia area about 4 years ago in the middle of July. We did not do any fishing but hiked to some swimming holes on some of the smaller streams and the water was so cold it was not really enjoyable even though the temps were in the high 80's.

Stocked trout cooked that way taste of butter, wine, salt, pepper and garlic. The stocked trout, if you are lucky, does not add any flavor.
