Penn's Creek questions and tips.

The week of Memorial Day, I have off from work and I am toying around with the idea of making a one day bonzai run out to Penn's Creek to get some PA browns to net and get home after dinner. Anyone have any experience out there and can provide an overview of sections that are more fruitful than others? Thanks.

Cheers,
Hooli

I like the area around Weikert. I was supposed to be up this last weekend but had some work things keep me home. My friends were up there, water was high and it was tough. It is a bug factory. Tips, match the hatch and dont blind cast dries, fish to rising fish. They are not as hard to catch as say the Deleware, but they are not stupid. I never thought it was all that difficult to fish, but like most streams with a high bright sun, it is going to be tough.

I agree with Joe
You want a day that doesnt have bright sun to fish or just focus on the fast water. I fished it once and it was tough fishing on a bright sunny day

Cool deal, Joe. From what I've read, most folks like the Weikert area more than Coburn. It may be tough, but the rewards there look awesome. 8-)

If you walk in from the C and R parking lot on the same side of the river the bank their is a deep undercut just before it splits into two channels. I caught 5 fish, 3 around 20" in the bank, all on a March Brown dry. At the same time the guy i was with caught a brown considerably larger than those on other side of the river pushing 23 or 24. It was a visibly bigger fish than the 20 inchers i caught. I absolutely lover the river, and Cherry Run looks nice too when the sun is up. It is a trib in the weichert area, i plan to hit it next time i go up.

I'm trying rope Decker into it, too. 8-) With you in the mix, at least one thing is certain, you'll probably supply a fine selection of craft beer along with appropriate glassware.

Hello, It’s funny but Eastern Fly Fishing magazine has a great article about Penns Creek. I just got it in the mail today. I like this magazine because it’s about eastern fishing and I think it’s better then the Fly Fisherman’s magazine. The article gives the fly hatches and access points.along the Penns Creek. When my daughter was in Penn State U. I would go to Penns Creek.and Fisher mans Creek. Pa. Has some great trout streams. Bill the mailman

The Hatch Chart for Penns is basically everything that hatches in the east around its usual time of the year.
